Widget talk:Google Spreadsheet

I don't know when this widget stopped working, but Google is no longer translating the older URL format. All 152 pages which use this widget were broken.

A check of the extension source code shows the widget is no longer supported. The "Sample result" shows what we were seeing until I revised the template.

I further revised the URL to add HTML view (/htmlview) which will provide a "read-only" view and is much faster to download.

Some of the pages may still be broken and they'll have to be fixed manually. Fortunately, the spreadsheets are accompanied with {{Spreadsheet}}. Click on the template link and Google will translate the old key into a different key using the new format. Use this updated key in the Widget and template. --LadyGeek 20:52, 21 April 2017 (EDT)

Some spreadsheets display a blank area. These links are not publicly shared and will need to be regenerated by the spreadsheet author (publish, share link). --LadyGeek 16:16, 22 April 2017 (EDT)

I am no longer active in MediaWiki developer community due to personal priority changes and the fact that MediaWiki couldn't defeat the spam problem effectively.

See this link: [RESOLVED] Widget:Google Spreadsheet fails on Project:Support desk. The user confirms the broken code and provides a similar solution with the new URL format. --LadyGeek 11:36, 23 April 2017 (EDT)
The URL parameters have been further revised to implement the format used by WordPress. See: Google Docs — Support — WordPress.com. The trailing part of the URL is changed to /pubhtml?widget=true&headers=false --LadyGeek 21:54, 23 April 2017 (EDT)

Pages to be fixed

The following page contains one invalid Google spreadsheet widget key. The key will need to be re-shared by the author.

--LadyGeek 16:58, 23 April 2017 (EDT)

The above list has been revised. Clearing the server's cache by appending ?action=purge to the URL rendered the spreadsheets for all but 6 pages. --LadyGeek 21:47, 23 April 2017 (EDT)

The above list has been further revised. For 5 of 6 pages, I was able to extract the revised key by logging into Google Drive. The spreadsheet URL then changed to the new key format and displayed a "You need permission" error. As the intended mode was for "edit", changing the URL to /pubhtml gave permission to view. I used this newly generated key to update the page.

One page remains. Vanguard Total International Stock Index Fund tax distributions is displaying "Sorry, unable to open the file at this time." and does not create a new key. The file key is broken. If a backup copy cannot be located, the spreadsheet will have to be recreated from scratch. --LadyGeek 19:53, 24 April 2017 (EDT)
