Talk:FAQ on Vanguard international funds

Does the How much should I allocate to international? section veer too far off the main topic of Vanguard's International Funds?

Domestic/International allocation is certainly an important topic but it doesn't relate directly to Vanguard's International Fund offerings. Shouldn't domestic/international asset allocation be given a separate and in-depth page, rather than a brief blurb here, thereby allowing this page to focus solely on its subject matter of Vanguard's International Funds?

Perhaps a #See also link reference as below to a dedicated domestic/international allocation page.

The foreign tax credit might be worthy of a spin-off topic page as well.

I agree. Shall we first create those pages? The domestic/international allocation page needs some more text, I think. PW.

I wrote some text for the Domestic/International page, but it could still use some massaging. CyberBob 13:54, 27 May 2008 (EDT)

CyberBob, are you going to get into "How much to allocation to international" in Domestic/International? While I feel that what I've written in FAQ on Vanguard international funds is somewhat preliminary, I don't know how much more we can say about that. After all, we know the best allocation only in retrospect. We are just doing some educated guess here. PiperWarrior 00:33, 28 May 2008 (EDT)

I put in some nice efficient frontier graphs and described those a bit. But I don't think the Domestic/International page yet fully covers the "How much of an allocation to international" question. If you can help by expanding the article, please do. :) CyberBob 09:46, 28 May 2008 (EDT)

Use symbols or names

Should we use fund names more and put symbols in parenthesis? I know I'm not good at remembering symbols. Tfb 12:42, 1 June 2008 (EDT)

Let's use fund names. People browsing this page may not be familiar with ticker symbols. PiperWarrior 11:41, 13 September 2008 (UTC)

Edits

Given the rapid transformation of the Total International Index Fund from a fund of funds into a fund directly holding stock issues (on 2/28/09 the fund held 80% individual stock issues), I have redrafted sections of this page to reflect the narrowing gap in tax efficiency with this fund and the FTSE ex-Us Fund. I eliminated the " I have Total International in a taxable account. What should I do? segment, since this is rapidly becoming a non-issue. Blbarnitz 05:01, 26 March 2009 (UTC)
