There is apparently a Chrome browser bug that affects the <math> extension: Minus sign not visible in chrome on following page

Visible in the wild, for example Help:Math formulas in the wiki. Failing example below, tested with Chrome, Version 87.0.4280.142 (Official Build) (64-bit). Results are (for me) entirely consistent. YMMV. Reports of results from different browsers welcomed.

Markup Renders as
<math>(-1)</math> (works: renders "-1")

<math>-1</math> (fails: renders " 1")

Test results

To reproduce - Zoom your view both larger and smaller than 100%.

Unable to reproduce this problem in Firefox.

Desktop monitor and 2560 x 1440 resolution

Linux OS Version 87.0.4280.141 (latest available) does not show this problem.

Windows OS Version 87.0.4280.141 (latest available) shows this problem when zooming <= 67%. No problems shown > 100%.

Cellphone

Android 10 Version 87.0.4280.141 (latest available) does not show this problem in mobile or desktop views.
