Weihenstephaner or Paulaner. The Germans do it best.
Both two of my favorites although I favor Weihenstephaner.

All of this. Also Ayinger is excellent.

Fat Tire
Mac and Jack's

Capital Brewery in Wisconsin makes a good amber lager, but I'm not going to pretend I know much about the differences between lager and ales.

1554 black lager
Guiness, the old standby, especially from the cans with the nitro ball (or whatever it's called)
Are you still in Wisconsin as your profile location states? I had no idea Mac and Jack's had that broad of distribution.

One very small upside to the pandemic is restrictions on bars forced them to finally start selling their African Amber in cans.

If you like Guinness, keep an eye out for Iron Horse Irish Death. It's one of my favorite stouts. If Mac and Jack's can make it as from home as you are, Iron Horse should be able to, as well.
I grew up in Washington. No, unfortunately Mac and Jack's hardly even crosses the Cascades. But I still love it!

Irish Death is good, but it started to get a little old for me, for some reason.

I'm an extreme fan of Tallgrass Taphouse in Manhattan, KS (central KS) and their current star of the beer menu, the 'Kansas IPA' if you're a west coast, piney IPA lover, it's the real deal. The taphouse is in downtown Manhattan, about 10 miles north of I-70 (exit 313 :happy ) if you happen to be on the road over the holidays. Cheers!

What’s your favorite beer(s)?

Post by thethinker »

[Thread merged into here -- admin LadyGeek]

Are there any BH beer drinkers? If so, share the beer(s) you enjoy.

I’ll start with beers I like. Based on this list if anyone has recommendations about other beers I should try and would likely enjoy, that would be helpful so I can expand my beer palate.

My fridge often has some combination of:
Stella Artois
Yuengling (lager and light)
Miller Genuine Draft

+1 Treehouse Hazy IPAs. Trillium also excellent for Hazy IPAs. Best Hazy IPA I have been able to find in a liquor store is King Sue from Toppling Goliath. Anyone else find a good hazy that doesn’t require visiting the source of the nectar? I really like the style but am usually disappointed with Hazy IPA I can find in a liquor store

Too many to list

For mainstream, easy to find I prefer Sierra Nevada Pale Ale in the cooler months and Pacifico in the warmer months.

I'm going to keep my favorite beer secret, as it's hard enough to find as it is.
However, a couple close favorites:
1. Elysian Space Dust IPA. A very hoppy beer that really clears the dust out of your throat after a long day of yardwork...or Youtube surfing. Plus, the package is cool. About $14/ six pack.
2. Founder's All Day IPA. The supermarket has this for about $16 for a 15-can pack. It's 4.7ABV, so it's more effective than the watery stuff, but you can still enjoy it...all day. And it is actually enjoyable to drink, IMHO.

I like to mix it up a bit - in the fridge right now:

Sierra Nevada Hazy Little Thing IPA
Platform Caramelicious Milk Stout
Fretboard Crazy Train Belgian Ale (local)
Elysian Space Dust IPA
Warsteiner Dunkel
Miller Lite

My favorite is anything new...

I'd rather enjoy a good beer now than save a buck towards retirement. Sometimes you gotta live for now.

I like the local breweries that have popped up around here for everyday drinking, but if I'm stuck with mainstream choices it's usually Sam Adams Seasonals or maybe Blue Moon.

Spent a lot of my life in Atlanta - can't stand Sweetwater 420. Must just be me...

It's hard to live in the US nowadays and not be a stone's throw away from a local brewery.

What they tend to sell is fresh and pure, made with loving care, and way better than anything you can get in the mass market. Plus you are supporting your local economy as well as possibly the rehabilitation of an old, dilapidated , vacant warehouse or factory , and often supporting local artists and musicians.

Think global. Buy local. With beer you will rarely go wrong.

Brewery Bhavana "Brisk" Pilsner
Saucy Brew Works "Juicy ASAP" American IPA
Edmund's Oast "Honey Toasted Oats" Blonde Ale Brewed with Honey and Lactose
NoDa "Hop Drop 'N Roll" IPA

Also split a Prarie Artisan bourbon barrel aged "Weekend" with my partner last night. Love their beer!

Favorite styles are west coast IPAs (the more bite the better) and barrel aged stouts.

Drinking local/independent is not much of a challenge these days, but you need to do your research. I look for the independent brewer symbol. Currently in the cellar:

Third Space - Unite the Clans (Scottish Ale)
West Sixth IPA
Fermentorium - Music Maker (America Pale)

Homebrew is DH's beer of choice these days as well. I think he has a quad, a milk stout, and a porter in bottles at the moment. The quad being a clone of Three Philosophers, if I'm not mistaken.

Mahou in the 8 oz bottles. Spanish bars have the right idea: serve beer in small portions. Each portion comes with its own tapa, so two smaller portions gets you more free food than one larger portion.
