Airnow.gov get airquality data where you live

Post by Goodenoughforme »

Airnow.gov might be a useful site for those who want to check on your local air quality (especially with the current haze and smoke caused by the wildfires in Quebec).
Sanjay Gupta (CNN TV medical repoter) mentioned it to check current and forecasted air quality. Insert zip code, city or state.

Here is a pretty neat site with a smoke forecast:

Thanks for posting! For whatever reason I was having a hard time finding up to date info for our area yesterday. Glad to have this resource!

The google maps app you might already have has an Air Quality layer which pulls from airnow and purple air https://support.google.com/maps/answer/11270845?hl=en

Agree. Have used this resource for the last two smokey seasons here in Western Washington, and have noted its improvements. It might come in the middle of the night as an odor, and airnow.gov will confirm it’s not a neighborhood bonfire. Or we may look out to see nothing and again airnow.org will confirm it’s not fog. AC with a zapper or filter is good too.

iPhone weather app is handier and quicker; but with less bells and whistles.

We launch our air filters. Two are small room filters. A third is a standard 20” fan with a 20x20 filter taped on.

Specifically I find the display at https://fire.airnow.gov to be particularly useful. It shows both the high quality EPA sensors and the low-cost Purple Air sensors.
