How to invest monies with IB as Czech EU citizen?

Post by sperry8 »

Hello all,

My friend has some monies that are in an IB account. She is a Czech citizen and as such I can't advise her on what ETFs/Funds to invest in - since she isn't allowed to invest in US ETFs/Funds (which is where my knowledge base is). Does anyone know where we can find a list of possible ETFs or Funds she is allowed to purchase via IB? Secondly, while we are figuring that out, we'd like to have her money earn interest. Does anyone know the vehicle she can invest in to earn interest (money market, etc)?

Thanks much

Hi,
She presumably is in the Hungarian IBKR entity? She can access all the main UCITS ETFs from there.
Look here for typical Bogleheads portfolio suggestions for non US investors:

And here for starting information:

As a back up she can use justetf.com to trawl through mountains of ETFs and as long as she sticks to UCITS she should be ok. https://www.justetf.com/en/

Thanks, I'm unable to find the funds on the wiki in IB. They do not show when I go to: IB acct: Research -> Mutual Funds Scanner -> pick your country / region -> fund type. Other funds from Vanguard and Blackrock do show however. So I should be able to have her pick from those, correct? Meaning if IB shows them once she adds in her country, then they are open for her? The Wiki ones aren't there.

Hi,
if you have an European account with IBKR, including UK then you should be able to access all the funds via the simple search facility.
If you are using a US account I don't have a clue.
