When does the annual conference for Bogleheads 2023 get announced and do they have a date and location yet?

This was discussed in the recent Bogleheads on Investing podcast. Rick Ferri interviewed Christine Benz.

No date was mentioned, but it's supposedly going to take place in the Washington D.C. area.

I think I’ll attend this year but not let on that I’m Annette. I couldn’t make last year’s conference due to a conflict but this year should be ok plus DC is more convenient for me. Looking forward!

Pretty sure Annette Funicello has left the building, Mel…

But not to worry, you are far from the only one who didn’t recognize the actress’s image.

May I suggest a special table for market timers, current, part time and reformed? We know who we are.

If I let on, I’ll be signing autographs all day and that gets tiresome.

I used to include an autograph session on the Agenda in the previous Conferences, Annette. :)

We are not supposed to post this publicly. A few hundred Bogleheads is a good target for financial salesperson.

There is no forum rule against publicly posting Bogleheads' conference locations.

The hush-hush nature of conference locations from years past was not due to a fear of financial salespeople (I can't imagine a less lucrative audience for a financial salesperson!) but rather because there were some security concerns with Jack being there in person.

I’m forming this mental picture of Edward Jones and Northwestern Mutual salesmen sitting outside a Boglehead meeting.

I don’t expect they’d get much business…… :D

The video team initially told us that they expect the videos to be ready for YouTube in early November. I can't say with 100% certainty though whether that timeline is still correct, as it's not a project with which I am directly involved.

Just an update on the videos.

I had originally been told that they'd be ready early November, and I passed that information along. Well, the video crew did get the videos to us in early November. What I hadn't realized is that there were further steps still needed at that point.

Essentially, the raw video footage is specifically of the person(s) speaking -- no footage of the monitor showing the slides. So when creating the videos for distribution, the video editors were working with 1) footage of the speaker and 2) a pdf of each session's slides, and they had to figure out at which moments in each video to splice in a shot of each slide.

And they did a great job of that. But we realized that while it was overwhelmingly correct, there were still lots of spots for improvement (e.g., the next slide was shown sometimes, when the speaker was actually talking about the last bullet on the prior slide). Small things like that can really make it harder to follow, especially when the material is pretty technical. (And again, given that they're videographers/video editors and not financial professionals, their first draft really was quite good.)

In any event, we realized that we needed to watch all of the videos, in order to provide suggestions for changes. So Christine Benz, Jon Luskin, Karen Damato, and myself rewatched the entire conference worth of videos, and it took us a while to get through that job, given how much total video there is from the conference. And then the video crew had to work through our suggested edits.

Now Rich Guerra is working on getting them uploaded to the Center's YouTube channel and onto the Bogle Center website. So we're at the last steps here.

Thanks for your patience. Labor-intensive stuff like this can take us a while, given that we're all trying to squeeze the work in around our "normal jobs." [Also let me just put in a plug here: the Bogle Center staff is entirely volunteer. If you're interested in volunteering, please reach out!]
