Can one set Individual Treasuries to Spec ID at Vanguard? RESOLVED

Post by hudson »

The answer is no not now, but you can make the change during the selling process.
From Vanguard: You may not change your cost basis method for fixed income securities until you place a sell transaction through vanguard.com.

My treasuries at Vanguard are are set to "first in first out."
Can I change them to Spec Id?
Or does it matter?

I went to
Profile & account settings
Accounts & trading
Cost basis method
change cost basis methods

I couldn't find a place to make a change. It took me to a list of treasuries and CDs that included this statement after every item: First in, first out (FIFO)*

OOPS....I just read the fine print....
Vanguard's default method for fixed income trade is first in, first out (FIFO). You may not change your cost basis method for fixed income securities until you place a sell transaction through vanguard.com. As you're placing the transaction, follow the footnoted instructions to change your cost basis method for that transaction from first in, first out (FIFO) to specific identification (SpecID).
Therefore, this is resolved.
