We originally planned to hire a nanny full-time for the summer, but have been able to find someone only part-time (3 days a week). Further, our backup provider (our child's former preschool) who we were planning on using to supplement any shortfall has now notified us that they do not have enough staff for the summer to take on our child even part-time.
Based on our calculations, we will not use the full amount of our DCFSA contribution and will be short in using about $1,000 as a result. According to FSA feds, one of the qualifying events is "Change in child care or elder care provider, change in cost, or change in coverage". Here, this is clearly a "change in coverage". This does seem like a fairly straightforward argument, but the devil is always in the details. We did not realize, when we signed up for the DCFSA, how difficult it would be to find full-time childcare for the summer.
Has anyone been in a similar situation? Any advice on how to maximize the success of the request?
