Marcus High-Yield Savings Account rate increases
Re: Marcus High-Yield Savings Account rate now 0.6%
Looks like Marcus bumped their rate to 0.85%. I didn't get an email with that announcement.
Re: Marcus High-Yield Savings Account rate now 0.6%
I suspect this is in response to Ally raising their rate to 0.75% last week. It's good to see.
With the AARP bump that's now 0.95% and with a 50bp referral bonus, I am currently at 1.45%!

Re: Marcus High-Yield Savings Account rate now 0.6%
I'm sure, because they just had bumped it to 0.7% after the last Fed hike. That's why I like Marcus. They seem to move to have the highest rates among the bigger HYSA banks like Amex, Ally, Discover, etc.

Re: Marcus High-Yield Savings Account rate now 0.6%
Marcus moved HYSA to 1.00% as of this morning.
No email notification of any recent moves up, but that's OK as long as they keep moving up. They're not the highest of anyone, but I'm not jumping to a no-name with a currently attractive rate just trying to vacuum up capital and likely lagging in the future. For now, my big question is how well will Marcus HYSA keep pace with Vanguard Federal Money Market Fund (VMFXX). Even with today's increase, it continues to lag. Might have to jump back to money market sooner than later.

Yep, even at 1% (above Discover's 0.9% now), Marcus is behind Vanguard Federal MM, which yields 1.27% now. Federal MM yielded 0.76% just a week ago, so it has jumped up fast.
Re: Marcus High-Yield Savings Account rate now 0.6%
I actually expected more of a bump given we had a 75bp hike, but it still higher than Ally and Amex (as of today).Cheez-It Guy wrote: ↑Wed Jun 22, 2022 8:33 am Marcus moved HYSA to 1.00% as of this morning.

Agree also expected more. Wealthfront bumped theirs to 1.40% last week. But I'm getting a 0.5% referral bonus with Marcus so 1.50% after that is more attractive.atdharris wrote: ↑Wed Jun 22, 2022 9:02 amI actually expected more of a bump given we had a 75bp hike, but it still higher than Ally and Amex (as of today).Cheez-It Guy wrote: ↑Wed Jun 22, 2022 8:33 am Marcus moved HYSA to 1.00% as of this morning.

Citizens Access HYSA has been at 1.25% since June 17.
I don’t see them mentioned often on these threads, so fyi I have found their website very simple and easy to use, and their rates have been competitive.

Comenity bank is at 1.64%
Re: Marcus High-Yield Savings Account rate now 0.6%
Indeed it is. Thanks for the heads up.
I am at 1.80% now - 1.20% + 10bps for AARP + 50bp referral bonus (good for another month).

BrioDirect is now at 1.8%.
Enzo pays 1.49% scheduled to increase to 2.15% on Aug 1, and they also give 1% cashback on Paypal purchases allowing you to double dip rewards if you pay off a rewards credit card with Paypal Bill Pay.

Re: Marcus High-Yield Savings Account rate now 0.6%
The 1.2% is great on my savings there, but now I feel like an idiot for locking up money in their 1.10% 10-month CD a few months ago, despite that being a great rate at the time.

I refuse to buy CDs or individual treasuries while rates are rising. I don't want to lock up money at rates that seem good now but later will seem low. I'm sticking to high yield savings and bond funds so I can keep up with the rising rates.

Yes. Got the email this morning confirming the increase in rate. Believe I've gotten one for each rate increase.

This post is a work of fiction. Any similarity to real financial advice is purely coincidental.
Re: Marcus High-Yield Savings Account rate now 0.6%
Looks like Marcus website is now showing 1.5%. Was expecting a bit more given the .75 fed hike this week, but still not bad. Guessing they'll send an email out today.
Re: Marcus High-Yield Savings Account rate now 0.6%
Marcus increased rate to 1.50% this morning. They also increased the referral bump from 50bps to 100bps.

No I am pretty sure it does not. I have an existing 50bp bump and mine has not changed. New referrals only I believe.

The 7 day SEC yield on VMFXX (the settlement for Vanguard) is now 1.84%. A good option for anyone who has an existing Vanguard brokerage account.

Yes. No complaints, but I don't make a lot of transactions since my money at CIBC is pretty much only to be used in emergencies. I only move money to and from CIBC a few times a year. These are electronic transfers to and from my checking account at another institution.
Not sure about security though. Sometimes it requires 2FA and other times it doesn't.
Initially moved to it a few years ago for a bonus, and because it had some of the highest rates at the time. Not sure if a bonus is still available or not.

Re: Marcus High-Yield Savings Account rate increases
Thanks for the info. I do have brokerage accounts at Vanguard. Is it fairly easy to get money in and out of the settlement fund? The money I'd put there would be part of my emergency fund.anon_investor wrote: ↑Sat Jul 30, 2022 7:26 amThe 7 day SEC yield on VMFXX (the settlement for Vanguard) is now 1.84%. Also, It seems like the Vanguard settlement funds I've noticed by going to my Vanguard accounts are either associated with tax-deferred or Roth. I guess there are settlement funds for taxable also? I'll have to take a closer look. I have taxable at Vanguard also, just never noticed whether there is a settlement fund for taxable. I guess there would be.

If your taxable account is a brokerage account then you would have a settlement fund. If it is a mutual fund only account, it would not. You can always buy the same fund (VMFXX) as a mutual fund at Vanguard ($3,000.00 min for initial purchase, $1.00 min thereafter).OpenMinded1 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 30, 2022 7:59 amThanks for the info. We've been doing something similar with 26-week T-Bills. Better yield than HYS. Buying via Vanguard. We still have HYS as well, and appreciate the rate increases. Of course, all of this is losing to inflation...AerialWombat wrote: ↑Fri Jul 01, 2022 11:46 amWhy not use 13-week T-bills? Unless I'm missing the option at Vanguard, it doesn't look like you can auto-rollover your t-bill holdings. 1-month t-bills make sense, but then don't you need to manually buy new t-bills every time they mature (at least at Vanguard)?anon_investor wrote: ↑Sat Jul 30, 2022 11:58 amNot as good as Marcus.LeftCoastIV wrote: ↑Sat Jul 30, 2022 11:00 amOn the Fidelity side, their website says FCASH was paying 0.82% as of July 18th (before the last fed rate hike).anon_investor wrote: ↑Sat Jul 30, 2022 7:26 amThe 7 day SEC yield on VMFXX (the settlement for Vanguard) is now 1.84%. Re: Marcus High-Yield Savings Account rate increases
As of the other day, I no longer see wire transfer as an option on my Marcus accounts - just ACH.
Called Marcus and the rep said that was strange and must be a website issue. Yet several days later I see no change. Asked the same question via chat and was told it would be looked into.
Anyone else notice their ability to wire funds has been removed?
Yes, I know we can do same day ACH if initiated in the morning. Sometimes there is a need to get money somewhere very quickly and the ability to wire is a benefit.

I would like to thank everyone on the AARP tip. I was able to increase my mom's interest rate to 1.6%.
Re: Marcus High-Yield Savings Account rate increases
Adding to my comment above, still no option to send a wire transfer. Can anyone else confirm whether they have the ability to send a wire or not?
Second thing. I sent two ACH transfers this week. Both were initiated in the morning (around 10am) and in both cases the funds did not arrive at the destination bank until approximately 9:30pm. This is highly unusual as all the transfers initiated around this time in the morning would always show by 4:30pm or thereabouts.
Third, when I called in earlier this week to inquire about the inability to do wire transfers it took 10-15 minutes before I got a live rep on the phone. Rep seemed very junior/inexperienced. When I called in a second time about the lack of wire transfer capability, again I got a very junior/inexperienced rep. In the past when I've called Marcus, I've gotten someone on the phone almost immediately and I've always been impressed with the knowledge of the customer service rep.
I'm getting a weird feeling here. Things seem off with Marcus. Anyone else picking up strange vibes with Marcus?
Given Fidelity's premium MMF yield is well above Marcus high yield savings account (2.13% vs. 1.50%), I moved the majority of my cash from Marcus to Fidelity this week. These transfers were initiated at Fidelity (to pull from Marcus) and no issue with access to the funds at Fidelity.

Re: Marcus High-Yield Savings Account rate increases
I use Marcus on and off. Right now it is off and I only have a dollar there. My experience with Its outgoing ACH transfer is mixed. Sometimes it posts at the other bank the same day, sometimes the next day. If your transfer is "large", they will call you to verify, which can be good or bad. It is good if you like the "extra" security but if you missed the call, your transfer will be delayed.

FZDXX. I called in to close a CD on Monday and transfer the funds to my Marcus savings. I had to wait for 30 minutes for a rep to come on the phone. I was told it would take ONE business day for the transfer. Today is Saturday and the website still shows the CD and I do not have access to my funds. When I called today they still said it would be 1 to 3 business days from when I requested the account close. Even though that is in the past they said that is all they can say. They do not know anything more other than that the system shows I requested a close & transfer more than 3 business days ago. Basically they say it will happen eventually but they do not know when because they are overwhelmed with people requesting account closures and, unlike other banks like Ally, it is a TOTALLY MANUAL process at Marcus.
Between this and the constant crashing of their website in the middle of transactions I will be closing all my accounts at Marcus and would no longer recommend them even when they offer good rates or bonuses. I guess a real test of a bank or brokerage is when you try to get your own money back from them.
Re: Marcus High-Yield Savings Account rate increases
I'm thinking of looking for a new online bank. Does Marcus offer the option for 2FA? If so, is it text message, Symantec VIP app, or something else?
Re: Marcus High-Yield Savings Account rate increases
E*Trade Premium Savings looks interesting at 2.00%.
My upcoming Marcus referral bonus expiration has me looking around.
I asked Marcus if they would extend the bonus to keep me as a customer and it was a flat no.

North American Savings Bank (NASB) is at 2.53% on their Premium Rate Savings Account. Minimum of $25k required to open and not available in Kansas and Missouri. I’m not familiar with this bank so can’t say much about their customer service, website, etc. but the rate looks competitive.
Re: Marcus High-Yield Savings Account rate increases
I had complete opposite experience--vey positive. Of course all done online.
Requested transfer to bank and completed the same day.
Ally on the other hand took 4 days.

Looks like there might be another good option. CFG Bank’s High Yield Money Market account is at 2.55%. Only $1k deposit required to earn the yield. No check writing with this account, however.Ron Ronnerson wrote: ↑Sat Aug 06, 2022 5:42 pm North American Savings Bank (NASB) is at 2.53% on their Premium Rate Savings Account. Minimum of $25k required to open and not available in Kansas and Missouri. I’m not familiar with this bank so can’t say much about their customer service, website, etc. but the rate looks competitive.
