Re: IT'S TIME! Registration for the 2022 Bogleheads Conference is NOW OPEN!
I'm so excited about the opportunity to gather in person!
We're still working on the agenda, but so far we've got:
+Wall Street Journal columnist/author Jason Zweig in conversation with author/financial advisor Bill Bernstein.
+Author and economist Burton Malkiel
+Washington Post columnist/author Michelle Singletary
+Bogleheads favorites Rick Ferri, Mike Piper, and Allan Roth
+Jim Dahle (aka "White Coat Investor")
+Chris Mamula of the "Can I Retire Yet?" blog (FIRE)
+Financial planner Jon Luskin
+Ben Johnson, head of global ETF research for Morningstar
+Bogleheads University, a day of learning for Bogleheads newbies and people who want a knowledge refresh
+A Bogleheads banquet, including the first inductee into the Bogleheads Hall of Fame
As in the past, we expect this event to sell out quickly. We can't wait to see you there!

So excited when I saw this post just a few minutes in! But as I thought, the event will be while I am in France. Tough life, eh? Someone else can have the spot I was going to scoop up. Have fun.
(I got to attend one a few years back -- 2016 maybe?)

Just noticed that the Bureau of Labor Statistics September CPI-U report (that determines the November 2022 I Bond interest rate) will release at 8:30am on Thursday, October 13, the second day of the conference.

Ram,
That's correct. The conference registration page also has a link to the hotel. You can use that link to get a discounted hotel rate or you can use your Hilton points. In any case, there is an additional resort fee of $14.95/night.
Hope you can make it there,

I assume so. The Bogleheads group rate linked from the conference website is a significant discount even below the hotel's AAA, AARP, and/or senior rates for the same dates.
However, the hotel does not appear to be accessible by public transportation from the airport (unlike the former Philadelphia area BH conference location.) I will miss the SEPTA frugal camaraderie!

What time will the conference end on Friday? I need to book a flight home.

According to this page, it ends on Friday noon https://boglecenter.net/2022/03/02/the- ... k-in-2022/
Friday morning will continue with main sessions by your favorite Bogleheads celebrities. The conference will end at noon.

Yes, I agree. The signup process this year was much easier than back in the old days when those of us on the East Coast were left in suspense for days as we needed to hope that our postally mailed checks reached the West Coast registration address in time to qualify to lock in our registration.
Looking forward to meeting you!I’m looking forward to attending my first BH conference!

Looks like a great line up of speakers.
Does the hotel provide a shuttle from/to airport?

This looks terrific. I just registered. It would be great to have a shuttle or some rideshare. If not, I'll fund part of it with my $15 monthly Uber credit with the Amex Platinum.

Re: IT'S TIME! Registration for the 2022 Bogleheads Conference is NOW OPEN!
I'm excited that there's so much enthusiasm for the conference! Early registration is strong--we knew that the Early Bird pricing would be a hit! We are grateful to our partners at SPARK Networks for modernizing the conference registration process for us.
Regarding transport, Uber/Lyft will probably be the best best unless you want to have a car to explore the Chicago area. It's hard to generalize about ride-share pricing because it's always changing, but $35-$40 would be a typical price for O'Hare to Oak Brook. Try to avoid arriving or leaving at rush hour to avoid surge pricing.
Thanks for the comment on public transport. We definitely looked at downtown locations and some hotels near O'Hare, too, both of which would be accessible via public transport from O'Hare. The downtown hotels were too expensive (for the event and for rooms) and the O'Hare hotels are all kind of in a concrete jungle. We thought attendees would appreciate the green space around the conference venue, especially since October is usually one of our best months in Chicago.
Thanks so much,
Christine

A suggestion... it would be great if there could be some designated time (e.g. perhaps a "Happy Hour" event) during which the four Life Stage Chapters could each meet as a group.

O'hare (ORD) airport is 16.3 miles and Midway (MDW) airport is 21.1 miles from the conference hotel. So that would give us two airports and more flight options for planning our travel.

^^^ I couldn't find any flights that matched my desired times.
Compare a potential round-trip cost of $80 to renting a car at the airport. I did a consolidated flight + car package with my airline and am looking at around $60 for a 3 day rental (+ fuel + tolls). It's also a lot less stressful knowing you can drive anywhere at any time.Christine Benz wrote: ↑Tue Apr 19, 2022 10:33 am ...Regarding transport, Uber/Lyft will probably be the best best unless you want to have a car to explore the Chicago area. I profoundly dislike driving, in general, and especially in unfamiliar places with labyrinthine access roads. Once in my life (30 years ago!) I did rent a car at an unfamiliar airport (Pittsburgh) and it was such a nightmare navigating my way back to the airport to return the car that I felt like I was orbitting the airport forever and was terrified I'd miss my flight.
Lyft is much less stressful for me! And maybe I will be lucky enough to run into a fellow BH conference goer* at the airport and we can split the fare. (Sharing rides on the way back to the airport Friday afternoon should be easy to arrange.)
* How do you recognize a fellow BH conference goer? It is like a sixth sense. I remember being at the Philadelphia airport SEPTA station platform when I went to BH 2015, my first one, and I spotted a likely-looking person waiting on the same platform. Yes--it turned out to be BoulderBoy.

Now that we're not doing Philadelphia every year, is the plan to rotate locations or is Chicago the new bogleheads conference location going forward?
Re: IT'S TIME! Registration for the 2022 Bogleheads Conference is NOW OPEN!
I have ugly flashbacks of the one time I had to drive from a town about an hour or two outside Chicago to O'Hare. If I were going to this year's conference, I would definitely look into planning to meet up with others who are flying in and out around the same time to share transport.dodecahedron wrote: ↑Tue Apr 19, 2022 7:07 pmLess stressful for some folks, anyway.LadyGeek wrote: ↑Tue Apr 19, 2022 5:58 pm Compare a potential round-trip cost of $80 to renting a car at the airport.
