The Pre/Early Retirement and Retirement Life Stage chapters will be hosting a meeting on Wednesday, February 23, 2022, on Zoom, starting 7 PM (Central).
5 pm Pacific
6 pm Mountain
7 pm Central
8 pm Eastern
Following our November 10th meeting with Professor Jill Steinberg - Successful Retirement: From Retiring to Rewiring, we have scheduled a follow-up meeting to explore the non-financial issues that Bogleheads have experienced when moving into retirement, and how those preparing for retirement can better plan for this transition.
Background:
Jill Steinberg, Ph.D. is an Emeritus Professor at San Jose State University, Licensed Clinical Psychologist, Salzburg Fellow, and author and Founder of MyRetirementWorks.com. She received her undergraduate degree from Boston University in 1972 and doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Ohio State University in 1978. Additionally, she has been working with the University of Michigan Ross Business School since the beginning of COVID.
The Topic is: Finding Your Purpose in Retirement. A small number of participants will be chosen from the RSVP form from those who wish to be part of a focus group and participate in being interviewed by Jill Steinberg during the zoom meeting. If you indicate on the RSVP form that you are interested in participating in the focus group, you will be contacted by email with further details.
The format of the meeting will be as follows:
First, a discussion with Jill Steinberg and each participant in the focus group, to discuss their "Finding Purpose in Retirement" topic and how it applies to their own life.
This portion of the meeting will last approximately one hour. After that, participants can choose to continue attending the meeting while we continue to informally discuss the topic amongst ourselves.
How to participate
- Optionally volunteer to be one of those "interviewed" live by Jill on the topic of "finding your purpose" in retirement (we'll privately follow up with those expressing interest)
- Be an audience member (you may optionally share your perspectives after the interview segment)
Targeted audience: Pre/Early Retirement and Retirement Life Stages (but others always welcome)
You can RSVP for the meeting, and indicate your interest in the focus group here...

The Pre/Early Retirement Life Stage chapter will be hosting a meeting on Wednesday, April 6, 2022, on Zoom, starting 7 PM (Central).
5 pm Pacific
6 pm Mountain
7 pm Central
8 pm Eastern
Topic: "Documenting Financial Information for Surviving Spouse/Executor"
In some cases, one spouse or partner handles most of the financial tasks. If this is true in your case, what can you document ahead of time to make things easier for your surviving spouse/partner to handle the finances should you pass away or become incapacitated.
Zoom presentation/meeting
The format of the meeting is as follows:
A series of slides will be presented with a list of points on a subtopic. After each slide we will open a discussion on the subtopic presented and participants may (either live on video or written in the chat window) offer their input/personal experience/ideas/questions/etc on that subtopic.
This meeting is not meant to present definitive answers on how to document things, but rather to offer a list of points for participants to research/reflect upon and figure out the best way for them to handle each issue.
Targeted audience: Pre/Early Retirement Life Stage (but useful for all life stages, as you never know what could happen unexpectedly at any age.)
You can RSVP for the meeting and submit questions here...
Please use this RSVP link
All responses are anonymous.

One last reminder about the upcoming meeting in 2 days.

Stumbled on this thread first time today. Sounds great! Will definitely subscribe/bookmark this thread and try to attend going forward. Are the sessions held on a regular basis or just have to check the calendar periodically? Honestly never really noticed the blog, only peruse the threads and Wiki, but will expand my horizons. Thanks for organizing these sessions. Very timely for me.

Re: "Pre-Retirement/Early Retirement" Life Stage Virtual Chapter "Master Thread"
island, welcome to the Pre/Early Retirement Life Stage group! The sessions are normally held every couple of months or so, but not on any particular schedule. Meetings will be announced on this thread approximately two weeks before each meeting, so since you subscribed to this thread, you will be notified. Tentative meetings will be put on the Bogleheads calendar before that, but those could potentially be subject to change.
Another way to be notified of these and meetings by other life stage groups (and some local chapters) is to sign up for the email notification list. To do this, go to the Bogleheads Calendar page here:
https://www.bogleheads.org/blog/calendar-of-events/
Scroll down to the "Subscribe by Email" section and follow those instructions.
We look forward to having you attend our next meeting which is set for May 18. The topic will be "Setting Your Children Up For Financial Success".

Topic: "Setting Your Children Up For Financial Success"
There are many things parents or guardians can do to help set their children up for financial success in life. We will be presenting topics regarding the financial education of young children to young adults. Since there is often no one way to do things that works for every child, participants are encouraged to share what has worked with their family, along with any successes/failures/lessons along the way.
This will be a Zoom presentation/meeting
The format of the meeting is as follows:
A series of slides will be presented with a list of points on a subtopic. After each slide we will open a discussion on the subtopic presented and participants may (either live on video or written in the chat window) offer their input/personal experience/ideas/questions/etc on that subtopic.
This meeting is not meant to present definitive answers on how to handle things, but rather to offer a list of points for participants to research/reflect upon and figure out the best way for them to handle each issue in their own family.
Targeted audience: anyone with children or planning to have children, or who just wants to listen in.
You can RSVP for the meeting and submit questions here...
