Welcome to the Leisure Class, expo62 and to this Most Exciting Retirement Roll Call! What an interesting emotional prelude to retirement, thank you for sharing your feelings Many of us found retirement to be bittersweet with plenty of regrets and anxiety. Once you settle in, however, you'll find retirement is quite a nice new life.expo62 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 09, 2022 9:21 pm After many years of self-employment followed by 14 years at megacorp, I'm planning on joining the "leisure class" this June.
I have to admit that it's more bittersweet than I anticipated, and the decision does not have some regrets and anxiety associated with it.
I'm currently 59 years old, in good health, and feel physically up to continuing meaningful employment, but psychologically...I'm done.
Thanks for sharing your "Pre-Retirement Check-In" thread. You've received some nice advice. I agree with Watty to be aware that you might move into a higher tax bracket upon retirement due to RMD's, pension, and high social security. I found it hard to believe that we were deep within a higher tax bracket in retirement than we were while working (Note - these were the old tax brackets)expo62 wrote: I hope I can make a smooth transition to the decumulation stage, but suspect I may struggle with adjusting to not earning an income. Still, I'm looking forward to spending more time with wife and friends, hopefully doing all the things I never made time for before.
I've posted our situation for feedback here viewtopic.php?f=1&t=372390
For now add me on to the class of 2022!
Best wishes for a long, healthy and happy retirement, spending more time with family and friends and for sure, doing all the things you put off because you didn't have the time while working! Please let us know how you fit everything in to all that new-found free time
