A few of us Bogleheads, including [midareff] would correspond a lot via email and off the forum. A little over a year ago [midareff] went silent quickly. . . .

Midareff was a wonderful part of our South Florida Bogleheads Local Chapter, and I'm sorry to say that he passed away last year

Subsequently I search for Marty as he lived in Miami. There was a website where it appeared his Will was in probate. I was sad to read that.

Sad. So you did see that and were aware?
Best.

Vince comes and goes, he was last active in early Jan 2023.
I have to guess he gets tired of arguing with people who don't agree with him.

Been missing JoeRetire, and his George avatar! I always glean something from his posts.
Might have been banned/on time-out. No way to pm him which is usually a sign.
What's "on time-out"? I know you could disable the PM feature by yourself, though I don't know if JoeRetire did that.
I'm not sure if this site does this but I have seen some that suspend members for a certain period of time if they run afoul of the rules and then let them back after the suspension. I have no idea if this is the case with this member.

Same here. He’s mentioned being unwell - hope he’s ok.
If I heard correctly, I believe JoeRetire finally made the leap and started a Podcast show. It is available on Apple or something. He talked about it before and must have made the leap. I wish Hugh well!

Joe posted recently. He’s ok.
Podcast or forum?

Came to ask for JoeRetire but some other people have asked this before.
He posted 4 hours ago on Reddit/Personal finance as GeorgeRetire. Same avatar and same direct comments. So cheer up!
Great. I feel better now. I’m gonna go look for him!
Me too, I was worried. He was the first one to excoriate me when I joined for not having a big enough net worth at my income.
It worked! It was the tough love I needed.
In my mind, he’s a grumpy retired guy in New Hampshire who makes maple syrup in his spare time. The kind of person that is gruff and prickly, but would do anything to help a neighbor in a pinch.

Where in the investment world is Vineviz (aka Vince) from Baltimore?
He rocked the house with informed and well presented investment knowledge and information.
Anyone talk with Vince?
Best.
Tony
Vineviz posted here an awful lot in December and early January and I enjoyed interacting with him. I thought he was pretty generous with his time, particularly when he has an Advisory business to run. Professor McQ started some excellent threads on portfolio diversification and I kept hoping that Vineviz would contribute. I think he is taking a well deserved break here, someone said he is posting over at Rational Reminder.
So I hope he resumes posting soon, I always enjoy his take on things. He is very knowledgeable about academic research. He and Bill Bernstein motivated me to make portfolio changes late last year and early this year, mainly adding more TIPS to the portfolio. He was a big influence, along with Bobcat2, in getting me to experiment with a duration matching strategy with TIPS funds in lieu of a TIPS ladder.
I reckon they are a little friendlier to factor based investing

Hi nedsaid -
Thanks! Glad to hear Vince is well.
If you correspond with him, please tell him many Bogleheads miss his knowledge share.
Best.

People can be suspended on this site.
Yes, they certainly can be.
Yes, they can. Some have been banished. Some banish themselves. It's the worst-paying job imaginable, so if it stops being enjoyable, might as well.

Vineviz posts some great content over there. RR is a different culture, not just the higher baseline acceptance of factor investing. There seem to be a lot of discussions about hair, for example.

Mods: he doesn’t mean you have the worst paying job. He means we forum members don’t get paid. It’s a subtle joke.

What about hair? Mine keeps falling out faster than it grows in. Do they have hair secrets over there?! Beyond biotin? Because I have no clue if that stuff is working yet.
