I wasn’t listening to it on purpose, but I almost fell over when I hard this song being played inside Walmart, earlier.

I mean what in the world are they playing a super cool onscure song from one of the lesser known amazing bands from the 90s for? It’s not like more than 1:1000 Walmart shoppers would have ever heard it before. Kind of crazy, but kind of cool.

They’re still playing a lot as a band too.

‘Society,’ by Pearl Jam

…this song for me is like a punch to the back of my head. I got a couple million but at the end of the day, I’m completely happy sleeping in a 16’ x 16’ dry log cabin in Alaska…no running water, flush toilets, shower…I currently bathe using a bucket. I finally had electricity brought to a post but I still ain’t hooked it to the cabin.

I love the whole concept of building for retirement and seeing folks who dwell in pure happiness once they retire. Though what I’m shocked to see as I’ve been retired for two years, is too many folks did everything right financially and they are ‘retired miserable.’ That’s not me. Retirement has been easy.

I got a great wife but I’m not stupid either. We are building a nice country home with all the convinces but we sure ain’t selling the cabin. While here, I’m completely satisfied. I want for nothing but a great sunset and a cold beer to watch it drop behind the mountains across Cook Inlet. Dry wall makes me want to puke. Yup, I’m goofy!

Sorry for the dissertation but this song brings this bizarre connection to the perils of financial security and within That realm, where does one’s true happiness await? And yes, I could live in a Conex and sleep under a blanket I got for 2 bucks at the GoodWill. That my friends, I cherish as a gift!!!

Oh my!

That was quite something to watch as well as hear.
I'm going to need to look for more harp music where there is such visual focus on the magical hands of the harpist!

We have been watching a lot of online performances recently, including some live, and it is amazing what the technology allows us to experience right in the comfort (and safety these days) of our own homes.
We would not have that view of her hands in an actual performance, not without some specific unusual seating, anyway.

I admit I kept thinking about how long it takes to develop and maintain the callouses to allow all of that plucking, and all the practice...

That was beautiful.
Thank you! :happy

Yes and this young lady was only 18 at the time of this performance (born on June 21st 2000 in Belgrade). She’s performing without reference to music, completely from memory. I know other master musicians do this as well, but how?

I know... there's no music even there "just in case"!

And that reminds me of my time in the UK ages ago, when there was to be a performance in London of ALL of the Beethoven piano sonatas, during a Friday evening, and then Saturday and Sunday.
I was so excited; I'd never had an opportunity like that. It was even my birthday weekend!
So I made plans to have a friend (another classical music nut aficionado) join me.
London is SO wonderful for classical music!
I bought the little booklets of the complete music, so I could follow along. What fun!

NOT!

I kept losing my place in the music, and that was really, really frustrating.
(I should add that the pianist was performing from memory...... or not...)

Except that the music review in the London paper complained that the pianist kept losing his place and was occasionally playing scattered, out of place segments.

So... it doesn't *always* work quite so well...!
I wonder if he ever performs things like a concerto, when there are other musicians to coordinate with!??

But this harpist... she was amazing. I also enjoyed her glances with the director.

NICE. Thank you again!

During the pandemic, I've been increasingly watching online classical performances and you are right about what it allows us to see, such as the hands and other movements of the young harpist, but also individual performances within large orchestras. Here are a couple of examples from the LA Phil's "Sound/Stage." The first features harp/cello, violist, clarinet, violin, etc. (the piece is not a favorite of mine, but the solo performances are wonderful); and the second featuring the violin sections playing Tchaikovsky at warp speed.

Big Wreck are easily one of the most underrated bands currently, in my opinion, especially if you are missing Chris Cornell/Audioslave. Slightly different style with a lot of their music, truly amazing sound! Wish they toured west coast USA!

Their first two albums had a lot of great music. I was never a big fan back then, but a roommate had the Dreamboat Annie album, and it was on regular rotation.

About ten years ago I saw them in concert. The lead in act was Jason Bonham's band. He came out later with Heart and they played an amazing medley of Led Zeppelin songs.
