Tonnanella
Serenata d’Amore
Italian (?) folk music. I like it — these musicians play with simplicity and honesty.

I am regressing this evening, back to to the 70s:
Bad, Bad, Leroy Brown https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yTrsS8SGwx4
The Rubberband Man https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KSMVflSBKx8
Summer In The City https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6xN3KOY2kbg

I actually only discovered the third one recently. It reminds me of falling asleep to an AM transistor radio when I was a child. CKLW, AM800, The Big Eight, Night Flight. It was usually rather mellow, not as frenetic as this compilation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9uJ83yM48-w

Really nice. I've heard him on Spotify before. Tiny Desk has some excellent musicians. :beer
Agree....created a small playlist with a dozen of his compositions and it's now my new "can't fall asleep" playlist. Audio melatonin :P

My finds this week:

Domi and JD Beck- These 2 young new jazz superstars are fantastic and I love Beck's drumming style.

Cory Wong and the Wongnotes again-
Cory Wong // "Jet Screamer"
This is my new all-time fav horn section and this song really highlights them. Great bone solo by Micheal who I think does all the arrangements followed by Kenni on sax. Brilliant!!

They sampled various 60's and 70's songs (good amount of Beach Boys) to build songs of their own. Upbeat / pop-sounding with a bit of psychedelia thrown in.

Nothing much. I swapped batteries in my car and the radio wants a security code input before it will turn back on. I think I know where the code is but have not bothered to look for it.

Songs I rated as 4 of 5 stars in my playlist. I often listen to the 5 stars, but the 4 stars are almost as good, and I hear them less often. Very nice.

With my son finishing up a summer language program in Japan, I'm feeling nostalgic for my own year abroad in Tokyo.
At that time, this song was everywhere.

That sent me revisiting a number of other nostalgic JPOP tunes from the 90's.

Matthew Locke: The Flat Consort on Spotify.

Matthew Locke was born 400 years ago in 1622, and while he is often ranked as one of England’s finest composers, he is still unaccountably neglected: his music may not be as immediately appealing as his immediate successor, Henry Purcell, nor as wide- ranging as William Byrd, yet his forceful musical personality and luxuriant technique place him in the first echelon of English composers, with his works described by Richard Boothby of Fretwork as having a “quixotic, capricious restlessness that is constantly challenging the listener to follow his argument … a thrilling musical ride”. Accompanying Fretwork on continuo for this recording are David Miller (archlute and theorbo) and Silas Wollston (harpsichord).

I tuned into this, excellent. The "No Commercials" reminds me of my 80's teenage years with one FM station that we referred to as "We Love Led Zeppelin". It would often have "commercial-free marathons". It was definitely the station we had on for gatherings/parties.

Adding: If I remember correctly, the first 6 weeks of broadcasting were not only commercial-free, but DJ-free as well. It was just good music playing over the radio 24/7 with only the call letters being announced every hour. A mystery. Late at night they would play unusual classics such as Rush's 2112 album in its entirety. Magical times.
