Love this album, saw the Firm in concert (I think twice?). I just had to remark because it's so rarely that I hear anyone mention them!

Very reminiscent (to me) of Ali Farka Touré and Toumani Diabaté's In the Heart of the Moon. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VVfpx2S ... pQS_Vljfsi
I believe Ali Faraka died but his son Vieux Farka has similar music. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MDDBIrQZURU

I’m listening to another of her albums now, Motherland:The Score, also very good, on Apple Music.

Georg Philipp Telemann: Fantasias for Viola da Gamba, Solo — John Dornenburg, viola da gamba
I’m now rereading The Diary of Samuel Pepys again, one entry per day, just as he wrote it, from 01 January, 1660 to 31 May 1669. (I’ll finish on that latter date in 2032). In the entry I read today from 04 January 1660, they played upon the “viol da gamba” so I thought I’d give this ancient instrument a listen and I quite like it.

Re: What are you listening to now
Jeff Beck was the epitome of English Rock Guitarists: an authentic original who stayed true to his craft for 60+ years.
This was never more clear to me than when I checked out his gear before a 2018 gig in Phoenix:
The box of PG Tips tea bags next to his white Strat almost rises the "Spinal Tap" level of parody, but I'm sure--like many Englishmen--he just liked PG Tips tea and the taste of home while on the road.
I think it'll be his numerous recorded versions of "A Day in the Life" that I'll be listening to tonight.

I’m a little late to the party, but I was watching/listening to Jeff Beck on the Arsenio Hall show playing Slingshot from Jeff Beck’s Guitar Shop. December 4, 1989. Jeff had so many great bands, this one with Tony Hymas and Terry Bozzio. So young…

I recently listened to this amazing podcast with Canadian astronaut Colonel Chris Hadfield, who is former Director of Operations for NASA, and was Commander of the International Space Station for 6 months. He has an amazing view of the universe, and a practical perspective of life on earth. It is a truly enjoyable way to spend an hour or so.

Talk about technically challenging! Haven't heard a Bach violin solo in years and am so amazed by the demands of this piece (absolutely precise intonation, pitch, etc., etc.) and that anyone could meet those demands so well...anyone except Hahn, I guess.Nicolas wrote: ↑Thu Jan 19, 2023 1:12 pm J.S. Absolutely flawless, and she’s been playing Bach since she was eight years old. I grew up watching Miami Vice with my dad when I was a little kid. We never missed an episode. I got the soundtrack as a teenager and man, did it take me back to those good ol days. To this day, I get chills when I hear certain Phil Collins and Glenn Frey songs. Good stuff
