And now The Firm, Radioactive (1980).
Love this album, saw the Firm in concert (I think twice?). I just had to remark because it's so rarely that I hear anyone mention them!

Thank you for flagging this. I stopped watching 60 Minutes and would have missed her.

Very reminiscent (to me) of Ali Farka Touré and Toumani Diabaté's In the Heart of the Moon. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VVfpx2S ... pQS_Vljfsi

I believe Ali Faraka died but his son Vieux Farka has similar music. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MDDBIrQZURU

Georg Philipp Telemann: Fantasias for Viola da Gamba, Solo — John Dornenburg, viola da gamba

I’m now rereading The Diary of Samuel Pepys again, one entry per day, just as he wrote it, from 01 January, 1660 to 31 May 1669. (I’ll finish on that latter date in 2032). In the entry I read today from 04 January 1660, they played upon the “viol da gamba” so I thought I’d give this ancient instrument a listen and I quite like it.

Another version from one the greatest guitar festivals, Jeff Beck - Cause We've Ended as Lovers - Crossroads Guitar Festival 2004.

I've seen a few of the DVDs from the Crossroads Guitar Festival and the performances and performers are amazing!

Jeff Beck was the epitome of English Rock Guitarists: an authentic original who stayed true to his craft for 60+ years.

This was never more clear to me than when I checked out his gear before a 2018 gig in Phoenix:

Image

The box of PG Tips tea bags next to his white Strat almost rises the "Spinal Tap" level of parody, but I'm sure--like many Englishmen--he just liked PG Tips tea and the taste of home while on the road.

I think it'll be his numerous recorded versions of "A Day in the Life" that I'll be listening to tonight.

I’m a little late to the party, but I was watching/listening to Jeff Beck on the Arsenio Hall show playing Slingshot from Jeff Beck’s Guitar Shop. December 4, 1989. Jeff had so many great bands, this one with Tony Hymas and Terry Bozzio. So young…

Bachman Turner Overdrive - You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4cia_v4vxfE

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robbie_Bachman

Robin Peter Kendall Bachman (February 18, 1953 – January 12, 2023) was a Canadian drummer and the youngest brother of guitarist, singer and songwriter Randy Bachman. He was the original drummer for both the Brave Belt and Bachman–Turner Overdrive bands. He also was sometimes credited as "Robin" or "Rob" on the liner notes of Brave Belt and BTO albums.

RIP. Thanks for adding to our happy times.

I recently listened to this amazing podcast with Canadian astronaut Colonel Chris Hadfield, who is former Director of Operations for NASA, and was Commander of the International Space Station for 6 months. He has an amazing view of the universe, and a practical perspective of life on earth. It is a truly enjoyable way to spend an hour or so.

Talk about technically challenging! Haven't heard a Bach violin solo in years and am so amazed by the demands of this piece (absolutely precise intonation, pitch, etc., etc.) and that anyone could meet those demands so well...anyone except Hahn, I guess.

Absolutely flawless, and she’s been playing Bach since she was eight years old. I doubt Bach himself ever heard it played so well.
