To be fair, I always thought the idea of a 75 bps June hike was ridiculous. Powell made sure to address that nonsense back in early May though.Marseille07 wrote: ↑Wed May 25, 2022 2:06 pm Markets liking that the minutes hinted 50bps hikes in June & July, not Jim Cramer's 100bps hikes.

Great day, if there’s one thing I am certain of, it’s that this rally is not fake and will hold up.

Re: U.S. stocks continue to soar!
Given that we are already seeing things like a slowing housing markets from existing rate hikes, I think they will likely be able to tame the asset run ups without huge dramatic hikes. The tougher nut to crack will be energy inflation. That may be hard to stop without putting the entire economy into a deep recession.Dry-Drink wrote: ↑Wed May 25, 2022 2:43 pmTo be fair, I always thought the idea of a 75 bps June hike was ridiculous. What a beautiful sight today.

Yes, let's call it a short-term rally amidst a mid-term downward trend instead.
Or, a Fump. I like Fump. You can use it for both directions. Term consolidation.

There you go. Basically just a term that says I don’t think this action of day will hold. Much less conspiratorial sounding. Or how about “temporary”?

I think the markets remain volatile until the July hike. The Fed might pause or slow down then.carminered2019 wrote: ↑Thu May 26, 2022 12:19 pmcaught a lot of knives on the way downTamalak wrote: ↑Thu May 26, 2022 12:17 pmNice timing! We call that a "bloop".
What do you think of Bloop?

Interesting --> Nasdaq up ~3% and BTC is down. They usually move in tandem so that's a bit unusual.

I am in the Green in my idex for 1 year, so technically a good year despite the blip.
Re: U.S. stocks continue to soar!
The thought here is that the market is rallying this week for two reasons: one is that not all retailers had poor earnings like last week. Seems if you had the right product mix you did OK.
Secondly, the economy is, I won't say crashing, but is slowing significantly - classic case of bad news is good news because the market believes the Fed won't have to raise rates as much as initially thought.
Have we found a bottom? Perhaps, but with the personal savings rate crashing, I suspect future data will be poor, which will drive us lower.

"The whole market is doing a rates vol relief trade, from FX, credit to equities. The cross asset question now is two fold, has rate vol peaked for this cycle and what is its new range?" -- Jon Turek tweet link
Re: U.S. stocks continue to soar!
We could be range-bound for the foreseeable future. It could very well be likely inflation has peaked, but that comes with an economic slowdown and demand destruction due to rising interest rates. The market is forward looking though. It will probably begin to recover before the worst of the economic dip is over.
