Seattle Area Chapter Meetings - Master Thread
Re: Seattle Area Chapter Meetings - Master Thread
Be nice to meet up now that spring is in the air here and people are coming out of hibernation. How about meeting mid-April in Bellevue or thereabouts?
Perhaps if you are interested, respond to this thread and we can get a count after which we can decide dates+exact locations?

Re: Seattle Area Chapter Meetings - Master Thread
Good point about Spring Break. If April doesn't work, then May likely should be fine
Re: Seattle Area Chapter Meetings - Master Thread
I am interested. Bellevue area would work well for me, and Seattle is fine too.
Re: Seattle Area Chapter Meetings - Master Thread
I'm interested. Please let me know date and location. I live in Burien, but ok to meet anywhere in Seattle area.

Re: Seattle Area Chapter Meetings - Master Thread
I'm interested as well
Re: Seattle Area Chapter Meetings - Master Thread
Interested too.
Re: Seattle Area Chapter Meetings - Master Thread
I’m also interested and on the east side. Is there anyone to organize? I am willing to organize something in the Bellevue area.
Re: Seattle Area Chapter Meetings - Master Thread
Just joined so I can post my interest. Looks like there are a handful of people who are interested in participating and a few like who are willing to help organize.
If folks are interested, we can meet at one of these places
a. Crossroads mall food court - loads of seating
b. Panera bread - usually free, if the timing is right.
c. Starbucks near Crossroads - they have a large covered patio at the back, we can hand out without being disruptive.
More suggestions are welcome. Sundays work best for me (around noon-ish?). Just to give folks a bit more time to plan and prepare.
How about Jul 9th? Respond, and I can work with you to help this get setup.

Re: Seattle Area Chapter Meetings - Master Thread
Sunday, June 9th would work for me. I'm okay with any of the locations near crossroads, Bellevue. I think Starbucks has large space for this group.
I can help in organizing as well.

How about Sunday 16th July, 2pm @ Starbucks 1350 156th Ave NE, Bellevue. I plan to hang around there for ~1-1.5 hours. They have a huge patio at the back.

Sounds like all you need is a new Local Chapter Coordinator. If anyone's interested in stepping up, just PM me, and I'll make it official.

It was nice to meet with a few fellow Bogleheads. For me it was impactful, I made some tweaks to my investment portfolio based on the discussion.
Let us pencil in the September meet.
Next one is - Sun, Sep 17, 2023, 2:00 PM - 2:30 PM (PST)
1350 156th Ave NE, Bellevue, Washington, US, 98007
It will be nice to hear about anything specific folks are doing "before the end of the year"? Any portfolio rebalancing, tax loss harvesting .. anything else?

Re: Seattle Area Chapter Meetings - Master Thread
Really enjoyed meeting folks today, and the discussion around the various topics. I’m already looking forward to meeting up again in March!
Re: Seattle Area Chapter Meetings - Master Thread
Today's meeting was fantastic. I took some notes as a way to jog the memory of folks who joined, and to pique the interest of folks who were on the fence about joining.
Attendees (First letters of first names only ) - V, T, T, S, P, R, B, M, L, A
R, I know you were trying to remember the names in the correct order and A, you said you were bad with names (memory exercise for you).
Here were the Finance related topics we discussed:
Overall, The meetup was a success with valuable information and insights shared among attendees. We will figure out an RSVP system for next time around.
I think it will be Mar 10 or Mar 17th - stay tuned for updates.

Re: Seattle Area Chapter Meetings - Master Thread
Thanks for arranging the meeting, Vivek! (I'm "S"). I thought it was a really interesting discussion.
One thing to add:
For the mention of "SEPP" (Substantially Equal Periodic Payments), for withdrawing IRA money before age 59.5:
I mentioned the term but I would recommend that people use a Roth Ladder instead.
A Roth Ladder allows you to control how much you convert (and pay taxes on) each year, you can stop it at any time, and there's no risk of multi-year penalties. The downside is that you need to save money for the first five years of retirement in a taxable account, while you wait for the "ladder" to get started.
