Watched the mini series "Keep Breathing" last night - all six episodes.

A 30 something NYC lawyer survives a small plane crash in wilderness Canada and must use her instincts to survive and also face the demons of her childhood and current life.

It is ok. Better than watching HGTV.

About 50% of the show dealt with her childhood relationship with her mother (and abandonment),her relationship with her father, and her recent work and social life.

Ratings on line were hit or miss...either a "5" or a "1" with very little in between.

The survival portion was a little hard to believe at time and her personal life (multiple stages portrayed) made the show a bit choppy at times. I gave it a 2.5 out of 5.

Fire of Love
Documentary about the lives of Katia and Maurice Krafft who were
totally and singularly dedicated to the study of volcanoes. When not
travelling the world observing and evaluating eruptions or the aftermath
of eruptions they were writing books, giving lectures, and making films
about volcanoes.
The entrancing specter of close-up erupting volcanoes, especially at night,
is eerie, spellbinding, and almost alien.

We rewatched "My Big Fat Greek Wedding " last night. I love that movie! The Greek family is very similar to my Sicilian family, and the Miller's are like my Swedish side.

Watched the whole show. Proof that I love my wife a lot, because I was a 1 and she apparently was a 5. It made me wish for a few episodes of Alive. Some of the worst acting and directing of all time.

Fall. This new little thriller is quite effective. During some tense sequences I found myself giggling to relieve stress.

Best seen on the big screen.

“Where the crawdads sing” at AMC. Liked it, Good character development and a story that keeps you interested to the end. Taylor Swift song pairs well with the movie. My wife said it stays true to the book.

DW and I started watching and finished two episodes before calling it quits, for the reasons you mentioned and also I did not find the main character believable at all as a 'high powered lawyer", as the synopsis said she was.

IMO, no comparison in story or quality, but certainly watchable. The movie is head and shoulders above the TV series, especially the actors and acting. I was surprised to note that there wasn't a Lincoln Lawyer 2 Movie. I swear I saw it! I wonder why no sequel to the movie?

I see Netflix has announced a season 2 to the TV series.
I read several of the books, and watched the movie. Liked them very much. Haven't seen the series yet, but plan to do so soon.
Movie is way better than the series. The series is mediocre, at best.
DW and I are enjoying the series and will definitely check out the movie when done. Thanks to Heartwood and Stoptothink for the recommendation.

Emily the Criminal. A nihilistic crime drama. The titular character is neither admirable or sympathetic, and yet the movie suggests she's trapped. The escalation of criminal activity gives the film momentum, and it's well done, but it's difficult to relate to any of it.

In theaters now.

This is one of the most unique and beautiful films I've seen. I live in Northern California, so the threat of destruction by fire is close to home. This film is so lovely and poignant, so gorgeously filmed.

<<Amador Coro has been condemned for having provoked a fire. Nobody is waiting for him when he's released from prison, and he returns to his hometown, a small village hidden in the mountains of rural Galicia, to live with his mother, Benedicta, and their three cows. Life goes by slowly, following the rhythm of nature-until one night a fire starts devastating the region.<<

I can see why you liked the pictures of the rolling hills and fires. As for the movies plot and characters my wife and I found those as barren as the burnt country side so beautifully pictured in the film. The good news was it was free. That being said others have liked it. Not us.

THE DUKE

Wife and I enjoyed it. A British movie based on true story.

English senior citizen who takes up causes. No violence, some bad language. More of a comedy with a social cause to it.

Good evening entertainment for $6

This is a 1963 mystery/thriller starring Audrey Hepburn, Cary Grant, and Walter Matthau. A young widow is caught up in a hunt for the proceeds of a theft.

Recommended.

I just rewatched this. It is as good as I remember. Very Hitchcockian.

Aside from Grant (suave) and Hepburn (elegant) you can't beat secondary actors Walter Matheau, James Coburn and George Kennedy. Villains all!

Ned Glass was another villain. I didn't recognize the name, but I did recognize the face. He was in most of the major TV mystery shows in the '70s.

QUESTION: One of the major set pieces took place in an empty theater. I seem to remember LOTS of movies like this. Can anyone name a few for me?

"The Outpost" a 2020 Netlix production about the Battle of Kamdesh in 2009. Combat Outpost Keating (COP Keating) was a lonely outpost in Northern Afghanistan. COP Keating was defended by 50 american soldiers(B Troop, 3rd Squadron, 61 Calvary Regiment) and was attacked by approx 300-400 Taliban fighters on Oct. 3, 2009. Needless to say the fighting was desperate and I found myself ducking as well as the actors, as rounds from all directions flew in the action sequences. Once the battle starts, things on the screen are very intense. 8 Americans were killed and as a measure of valor; 9 Silver Star, 1 Distinguished Service Cross and 2 Medals of Honor were awarded.

The characters who received the MOH awards were Sgt. Clint Romesha and Specialist Ty Carter and they are featured prominently in the movie. For those interested they are both featured in episodes of Netlix's series "Medal of Honor". Both amazingly survived and are interviewed in their respective episodes, The series is very well done and provides background informtation as COP Keating camp layout details can be confusing in the movie. Both movie and series are very straight forward and convey the courage exhibited and the loss of so many fine friends,

If I were on this site would’ve said how bad it really was. It was horrible. Didn’t make any sense at all. If it were free it would not have been worth it. If they paid me five dollars it would not have been worth it. If they paid me $20 to watch it it might be worth it. $50 for sure would be worth it to watch it.

Dr Strange in the Multiverse of Madness - streamed on Disney+. Not a very good movie, but we stuck it out to the end, which was not worthwhile. Everyone involved seemed to be phoning it in.

Eternals - partially streamed on Disney+. I say partially streamed because we bailed after 30 minutes, which is pretty rare for us. I hope that gives you an idea of the quality of this production without me being rude.

We recall the story on the news, and followed it somewhat (how could you not?), but did we miss something during the news coverage, because we had NO IDEA that they had to anesthetize each boy and their coach to get them out safely. Did they keep that out of the news reports? Was that added to the movie for dramatic effect? The rescue itself was an incredible feat in itself, but to learn about that aspect of the mission (if true, and it sure seems plausible) made it all the more astounding.
Definitely true. You should watch the amazing national Geographic documentary on this rescue. It is called "The Rescue" and I think it is still on Disney Plus. It has actual footage of the rescue and discussion among the divers about their idea of anesthesizing the kids. And the amazing story of how some British divers were extremely effectual in helping with the rescue
just watched this also -- twice

highly recommend

as an Open Water Diver I was amazed at the footage / stressful depictions of the tight spaces and danger. thrilling feat to rescue all the boys. (not really a spoiler -- most people know how it ends...)

one thing i read was -- for the movie filming -- the water clarity was much better. in reality visibility was basically ZERO for hundreds of the meters they dove.

hats off to those rescuers. absolutely incredible story.

The Lost City of Z, on Amazon Prime.

This is the epic story of Percy Fawcett, a British army officer, sent by the Royal Geographic Society to the Amazon jungle on the border between Bolivia and Brazil, originally get an accurate survey of the border. He discovers pottery fragments, indicating a past civilization in the wilderness, and his second and third expeditions are an attempt to locate it. He and his son disappear and are never found.

Those Magnificent Men in their Flying Machines; Or, How I Flew from London to Paris in 25 Hours and 11 Minutes

A slightly silly, 1965 large-scale fictionalization of the early age of flying. There's plenty going on to keep one entertained for the full 2 1/2 hours (including an intermission). Very good stunts and (for their time) optical effects. Both the airplanes and automobiles in the film are superb and beautiful machines. It features Gert Frobe and Benny Hill, who were also in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang together. The eponymous song was created for the movie. Found on the FXM Retro channel.

The resemblance between Ned Glass and Adolf Eichmann is striking. This movie was filmed just months after Eichmann’s execution. No other connection of course.
So, that was better casting for a villain than I knew!
I can recommend The Last of the Unjust, by the director of Shoah, about a Jewish Austrian living in Rome who survived Theresienstadt and offered to testify at the Eichmann trial against Eichmann based on being an eyewitness. They did not take him up on his offer, so he tells us some of Eichmann’s dissembling that he could have refuted and exposed if he’d been invited to testify.

It’s a controversial documentary with lots of first hand accounts by an outspoken individual of strong opinions and terrible burdens due to his role as one of the administrators of Theresienstadt.

THE POSTMAN ALWAYS RING TWICE (1946), streaming on HBOMAX. Can't really hold a candle to DOUBLE INDEMNITY, but still a pleasure to watch John Garfield. I recently heard there were some foreign versions of this made before the Turner/Garfield flick, and I'd like to check those out, too. I don't know if I can bring myself to watch the Nicholson version from the early 80s.

Top Gun and Bullet Train are my most recent two unless we are going to count streaming. I like it when things explode in THX. My 12" overpriced subwoofer will pop nails out of the wall, but it will not compete with that.

"pop nails out of the wall"

I like that, gave me a good chuckle! :D

Annette,
Youve taken me from a light-hearted, thriller-mystery-comedy-romance movie to the horrors of WWII!

Please do include streaming; we are among those that won’t go to a theater (for many reasons) but still enjoy movies. Always looking for streaming recommendations.

Btw, two overpriced subwoofers are better, not because they can play louder, but because in a home theater the walls are close and you get complicated constructive and destructive interference (i.e., peaks and nulls) in bass notes. The physics of low frequencies in a small room are rough on single sub installations; a 20 Hz note has a wavelength of 56.5 feet which is much longer than a typical home theater. Having multiple subs (and room correction software) improves bass performance.
I get the FI part but not the RE part of FIRE.

Recording Clint Eastwood's The Eiger Sanction for later watching. This is in preparation for a trip to The Alps next summer.

My One and Only,on Amazon Prime.

This 2019 comedy/drama stars Rene Zellweger and Kevin Bacon. In New York a woman catches her husband cheating (again). With her two sons in tow she travels across the country seeking husband material, they end up in California. The movie is more better than it sounds.

Based on the recommendations here I watched 13 Lives on Amazon. I thought it was very well done.
