Greetings friends,
I started creating a portfolio investment tracker on Google Finance Sheets because Excel STILL has not yet incorporated the "Stocks" function for non-365. Anyway, I am wondering how to calculate the monthly and quarterly returns for the entire portfolio. Conceptually, this would be done by taking the difference between the total value of the portfolio at the end of the month less the value at the beginning and dividing by the former.
I suppose I could laboriously do this manually so that each month ends up with two values. The issue is the dates that I would use in the =GOOGLEFINANCE function would need to actually be a weekday. Sometimes the beginning and end of a month fall on a weekend so it is a pain to actually comb through and determine when that is and what adjustment needs to be made.
Has anyone tried doing this before?
