I'm guessing this:

A move like this could encourage a lot of folks to sell off their gains from 3/20 and on - could it not? Why hold onto them for a slight gain when you’re getting whacked by double the capital gains?
If they sell, I’ll be buying. Actually even if they buy, I’ll be buying. They could do nothing, and I’ll be buying. Three times this month, three times last month, three time next month. Tax 'em, don’t tax 'em, who cares, I’ll be buying.

I don’t have a truck, but I carry my bucket with me all the time.

Most truck owners I know would never dream of actually putting something as dirty as stocks in the bed. I mean, wouldn’t that maybe scratch it?

Silverado has other meanings...

I was thinking, it would take more trips perhaps, but what getting a vintage VW Bug? With the front cargo hold one could pull straight in and load it up. No more worry about backing in.

Why irrational? Higher capital gains taxes basically means the risk to reward ratio for stocks has become worse. Seems rational to now demand a higher earnings yield.

100%. If you want to train your HODLing skills (buy and hold), invest in crypto :D

When I see news saying bitcoin crashed when it's down 10%, sounds super sensationalist. It's to be expected. Volatility is at least tenfold of total stock market.

I hope anyone saying today's dip is a buying opportunity is aware that any date in the entire history of the stock market prior to one week ago would have been an even better buying opportunity for a long term investor.

Other things.

Real estate is a classic.

If you don't need the liquidity, and stocks and bonds don't look so hot, take the money out of public markets.

FWIW, Zillow says our house value shot up by $100k in the last 30 days....

Real estate cap gains are tax free on first $500k.

I removed an off-topic interchange conjecturing on a proposed increase of capital gains taxes. Speculation about future legislation is prohibited by forum policy, see: Unacceptable Topics
In order to avoid the inevitable frictions that arise from these topics, political or religious posts and comments are prohibited. The only exceptions to this rule are:
  • Common religious expressions such as sending your prayers to an ailing member.
  • Usage of factual and non-derogatory political labels when necessary to the discussion at hand.
  • Discussions about enacted laws or regulations that affect the individual investor. Note that discussions of proposed legislation are prohibited.
  • Proposed regulations that are directly related to investing may be discussed if and when they are published for public comments.
This forum is focused on investing that is directly actionable to personal investors. We don't hold debates on conjecture.

The whole point of the policy is to (1) eliminate contentious disagreements that result from these discussions and (2) keep investors from making bad decisions. Proposed legislation changes many times between the time it's introduced and signed into law.

Futures are nicely positive this morning.

Hopefully today will be a nice snapback from the little temper tantrum the market had yesterday afternoon.
