Own out right two SFH rentals, worth around 300k on market combined. Around 20k cash flow per year from them

Own my house which is under contract though, sister bought so I didn't sell for profit. Break even and will get my 125k back. Big nice house but hurricane Issac flooded it out so bought for next to nothing, renovated and lived note free for 4 years. Worth 240ish on market now. (sister in good shape going forward)

Just bought another house for myself on mortgage. 20% down @ 250k price

Hit 550K in 401k. Salary around 150k yr OT depending

All in all including the equity in my new house, Worth around 1m.
Congratulations!

Keep saving and building wealth. $20k cash flow on $300k of properties is nice!

Thanks. Working on it, Have another SFH under contract right now that should pay my mortgage. Being note free affords for a lot of expendable income to invest/live a litte

Congratulations! Those retirement account will take off to multi-millions.
Any thoughts on slowing retirement contributions down to manage RMD's in future? I think we will be in same crossroads of decisions in 4 years.

2. We have cash to pay for large purchases (like the playset!). Going to Disneyworld? We have a bank account we save so the cash is there. Putting a new deck railing on our deck, the cash is on hand before doing the project. I think this mentality works well as we never get behind and are always "ahead" of things.

first off, congrats on your accomplishments. Looks like you have a very good strategy for enjoying your money while saving well for retirement. I think the above quoted part portrays very well how it should be done. Pay cash for toys and luxury. If you must finance, then you can't afford it.

Keep up the good work and the balance you have between enjoying and saving your money.

Congrats, and IMO the only number that matters is how many years of expenses you have socked away that let you live how you want. $3M net worth with $250k in expenses vs. $2M with $60k in expenses; I'd rather be the latter.

Far more modest than anything else here, but I passed 50k net worth this month (26 years old). Been not so great with savings rates the past few years, but I’ve stepped up to saving about 40% of my ~63k income and feel good about picking up some speed.

That’s absolutely excellent! And that’s much more wealth than I had at the (tender) age of 26.

Please post back when you hit $100k. It will come faster than you think at the rate that you’re saving.

If anything, we should celebrate these initial milestones more than the two-comma club milestones, because you're off to a fantastic start. When I was 26, I was still a starving graduate student adding $10k+ a year in student loans to my plate. So the fact that you're saving 40% at this age is great!

Yup. At 26, we were around -$250k net worth. Getting to $0 and then to $100k felt like much more important milestones than any of the later ones, and you are off to a fantastic start with a great savings rate.
Global Market Portfolio + modest tilt towards volatility (80/20->60/40 as approach FI) + modest tilt away from exchange rate risk (80% global+20% U.S. stocks; currency-hedge bonds) + tax optimization

That is an amazing savings rate.

Establishing a high savings rate is the most important investing decision you can make, congratulations.

At age 26 I was just finishing school, married, one child, with a negative net worth.

Modest you say? Compared to your peers you are doing great! Congratulations! Keep chugging.

The co-worker was complaining about how another appliance had broken, and she's having difficulty working around it being broken. She was trying to figure out which credit card she could use to replace the appliance and still be able to afford the minimum payment. She said had she known this one was on its way out, she wouldn't have replaced another appliance of less critical importance that failed last month.

It made me realize that in the last year, I haven't had to bat an eye at replacing my broken microwave or TV, plus I was able to replace my parents' broken laundry machines. I didn't have to budget to replace my tires either. I just replaced them and paid off the credit card at the end of the month. It's truly a freeing, and rather rare milestone in comparison to the average American (probably not rare on Bogleheads though), to be able to weather these unexpected financial expenses straight out of cash reserves without having to play the credit game. I grew up watching my parents play the credit game, and it's a massive source of stress that I don't have in my life.

It's a small milestone, but still one to be acknowledged and celebrated, particularly for the younger Bogleheads like myself that are nowhere near the millionaire's club or paying off their mortgage.
It's sometimes the small things that mean the most. Well done, Mudpuppy.

At 26 I was living paycheck to paycheck, working full time, and going to school part time. My epiphany didn't come until many (many,...) years later.

You are so far ahead of the power curve as to be unbelievable. Just wait until next year... and the years to come.

If you maintain your current savings/investing rate, and assuming 7%/yr market return, you'll have $500K after 12 more years (=NPER(0.07,-25000,-50000,500000,0)), and $1M after 18 more years (=NPER(0.07,-25000,-50000,1000000,0)). Unless you advance in your career and begin saving/investing more annually... in which case your milestones will come more quickly. :)

Congratulations!

Posting here since I can't share this milestone with anyone else. Recently reached the double comma club last week in investable assets/cash at age 38/37. I didn't think we'd hit this milestone until my wife turns 40 but here we are. It also means we have reached bare bones FI (basic expenses x25 plus mortgage balance). The last 2 years of market returns plus saving/investing close to $100k a year have doubled our investments in that same time frame. I don't expect to keep going at this rate, but it's nice to know we can scale back and still be okay if we wanted.

Next goal: $2 million!

My aging brother-sister pair of cats are currently putting this to the test. The sister cat has developed elderly cat complications that took about $1000 to diagnose and she now requires $50/month in medication for the rest of her life. The brother cat just had bad timing to develop an infection over an extended weekend when my normal vet was closed for many days. Let's just say I have a very low opinion of the emergency vets in this town now, after how they handled this cat's infection. Overall, he's racked up about $2000 in vet bills and had this happened when his normal vet was open, it would have been much lower.

Still, I haven't even had to dip into my high-yield savings account to handle paying the vet bills. I just used the cushion money in my normal checking account for that. That cushion amount was going to be my June charity donations, but I'll have to scale back to just December donations this year given how much they've racked up in veterinary bills.

I certainly will. Joined this forum back in 2013 and I can say with absolute certainty that the advice here alone is the cause of our success. Hopefully we can keep this going and want to thank this wonderful forum for everything we’ve learned about finance.

I just found out today that my net worth crossed $500k. That is especially satisfying to me considering I was at $-150k eight years ago with nearly poverty-level income.

The great recession hit me harder than most due to being heavy in stocks and real estate (in the most bubbly of areas, too) and losing my job at the same time. But what the markets taketh away, the markets also giveth. I'm even heavier in stocks and real estate now and so the last few years have been great. I also--finally--am back to earning decent money so although I know there will be more dips along the way, I'm hoping the growth will accelerate.

Congrats to everyone else on your milestones! :sharebeer
Almost 9 months to the day later, and I've crossed $600k in net worth, with 95%+ of that in investable assets. I'll take this +$100k every 9 months rate for as long as I can get it :D .
Just joined the two-comma club. $1,000,000. (I know you know what the two-comma club means. I just wanted to type that out!)

26 months after 500k. I've been saving like a madman, but most of that is just the returns of the markets (stocks and RE). 95%+ is still in investable assets, which may or may not exceed a million on their own, depending on the unknown "exact" value of my properties.

I'm happy to have my investments double every 26 months. Markets only ever go up...right?

You're doing great. I was just surviving at age 26, the company I worked for put in 3% into our profit sharing (didn't have a 401(k)) and I just didn't have enough to fund an IRA yet.

Small potatoes compared to 99% here but I finally managed to get out of the credit card cycle and stay out for enough time to squirrel away $5k in an emergency fund. Spent the majority of 2019 paying off 0% credit card debt and 2020 going through the cycle of paying off my card monthly just to fill it back up the next month.

Dangerous cycle but I feel pretty good to be out of it. Sadly, I couldn't even tell you where most of the money went.

Thankfully I've always had jobs with good 401k/ESOP plans so I do have $400k saved for retirement (34) but now that I'm out of the hole with a solid plan I feel a lot of stress off my plate.

Again, peanuts to what you see on BH but I'm glad to be on the journey.
