Please double-check your severance package. Perhaps you're continuing medical before COBRA kicks in? COBRA can only be 18 months. See: FAQs: Health Care Reform and COBRA

Some of you might know that I started my investing journey by end of 2019 and invested most of my assets right before the crash. Now I'm back at +0.50% overall (in CHF). It's also the first full year that I tracked everything. Earned 96k gross in the last 12 months and increased my networth from 31.1k to 64.5k. It's not that much, but as a 29yo I got plenty of time left till retirement

It's good that you got your ducks in a row to take advantage of the next 40-50 years of compounding. I was $6,013 in debt at age 29 before I decided to start tracking everything.Stef wrote: ↑Thu Aug 27, 2020 3:25 pm Some of you might know that I started my investing journey by end of 2019 and invested most of my assets right before the crash. As per the URL that you quoted, COBRA can range from 18 to 36 months. In my case, it is 24 months.
<<COBRA requires that continuation coverage extend from the date of the qualifying event for a limited period of 18 or 36 months. >>

KlangFool,
I only wanted to be sure that your coverage is what you expect.
In "Q11: How long does COBRA coverage last?" the coverage is 18 or 36 months - it's not a range. An employer can extend coverage beyond the maximum, which is why you should check your severance package. You can extend COBRA to 36 months if you meet certain qualifying events. Medicare also has an influence.

Reached another big milestone in our late-30s. Didn't realize the market had recovered so quickly since the March crash. The 2nd million is indeed much easier .majiaknight wrote: ↑Sat Mar 02, 2019 2:32 pm Projected time to reach the 3rd milestone by the end of 2020. Cheers!
- (04/12/2017) 1st milestone - $1 million counting home equity.
(03/02/2019) 2nd milestone - $1 million in investable assets, ignoring home equity.
3rd milestone - $2 million if I start counting home equity again!
4th milestone - $2 million in investable assets, ignoring home equity
Ultimate milestone - $5 million overall assets (FIRE)!!
Projected time to reach the 4th milestone by the end of 2024 as we just refinanced mortgage from 5/1 ARM to 15Y fixed @2.875% (just before the March crash ) and DW wanted to further accelerate the payoff.

Re: Paid Off Mortgage
We paid off our mortgage on Tuesday.
I wanted to thank everyone for all the replies from other "Paying Off Mortgage" posts. The information/advice was VERY helpful in making the decision. I'm not sure how it should feel, although the bourbon I had that evening did taste a bit smoother. Next is to find a place to park the former monthly mortgage payment which is a good "problem" to have.
As LadyGeek mentioned, we took care of the loss payee on our H/O insurance.
Regarding what Grt2bOutdoors mentioned; "Make sure you receive notification from your local government clerk's office that the lien was officially stricken from their record books. This is in addition to the letter from mortgage company removing the lien." Is this something they will automatically send, or something we need to initiate?
Is there anything else I might be missing?

^^^ I received the notification (from my county) with the mortgage company letter.
As to what you're missing - I think you might want to sample that bourbon again to be sure that it did taste smoother.

500K MILESTONE :)
Today I hit the 500k Milestone!
I am single and 35yo living in HCOL city
Most of this is due to the tremendous rise in the market over the past few months and there may very likely be some regression so I may very likely dip back below this in the short term but I am still pretty happy with hitting this milestone.
I also have to admit that I do have a Robinhood account that I invested approx $20k and is now at $85k with very un-boglehead positions but this was my fun money investments and I only risked a very small portion of total assets and was what I was "willing to lose".

We have a long way to go and are still behind (we’re early to mid thirties), but I’m really proud of what we’ve accomplished.

Re: Paid Off Mortgage
The county will usually send it, but just to be sure, make sure you keep your eyes out for this document. If you don't get it within 2 months, contact the mortgage bank and ask if they sent the request to the county to remove the lien from the record books.lionroar22 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 27, 2020 5:11 pm We paid off our mortgage on Tuesday.
I wanted to thank everyone for all the replies from other "Paying Off Mortgage" posts. The information/advice was VERY helpful in making the decision. Next is to find a place to park the former monthly mortgage payment which is a good "problem" to have.

Reached 500k last week as family including HSA, Emergency fund, 401k, roth of both, brokerage of both and 529 for kid.
I was rebalancing heavily when market down made it possible seems like..

Milestone #2
Milestone number 1 was going over 3 million in net worth last year. Just this week my investment portfolio went over 2 million. It took 5 years from when I hit 1 million. Celebrated by eating chicken wings and drinking a few beers. Onto the next million.

Joined the two comma club today at age 29. Been following bogglehead guidance since I started working full time out of college. Road out the COVID crash/dip at 100% stocks/mutual funds and came out the other side victorious. On to my FI number and fatFIRE goals.

(B) doesn't matter if (A) is true. Congratulations Klang.

1) Thanks.
2) I was hoping to stay employed for a few more years and qualified for the employer's retiree health insurance coverage. Now, I have to revert to plan B (ACA coverage after COBRA).

That is impressive long run!
How may years did you fill to max?
It really shows the power of compounding when the first dollar that went in almost ~$5 now.

Congratulations.
I am also a grad of great recession(2009). Tough to find a job for months coming out of school but definitely taught some frugality lessons.

Thanks much for the notification info. Regarding the bourbon, I took your advice.
Thanks much, will do.Grt2bOutdoors wrote: ↑Thu Aug 27, 2020 10:58 pm The county will usually send it, but just to be sure, make sure you keep your eyes out for this document. If you don't get it within 2 months, contact the mortgage bank and ask if they sent the request to the county to remove the lien from the record books.
Congrats! You should be proud, that's quite a bit for only 5 years. As for the "long way to go", time is your friend. Good luck!
Lol on the 401k/$401k. 7% is a sweet match. Congrats!alfaspider wrote:Thu Aug 27, 2020 1:45 pm Fun milestone yesterday: the balance in my 401k has exceeded $401k
Will likely dip below that soon as I have post-tax money that needs to get rolled into my roth, but it's certainly some nice growth. My company's generous 7% match helped a lot.
Sorry about B, but congrats on A!
Congrats! That's impressive for 29.bantam222 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 27, 2020 2:31 pm https://ibb.co/pX0M2QG

Re: Post your Financial Milestone Announcements Here
Just crossed 1MM today.
Started in 2008 with ~(136K) - that's 136K of a hole named student loans.
In last 12 years, moved a couple of times, stayed in 3 apartments and two homes, had twins, suffered career shock, did well in eventual career, checked this site every so often to remind myself to not stray from the path too far.
Here is my journey in a regression equation. X-Axis is number of years, Y-Axis is Net Worth.

401k in 401k
I passed 401k in my 401k at market close today. I can vividly remember reading Madbrain's post on this same accomplishment several years ago (Oct 2013) and thinking how far away it felt for me. At the time of his post I had around 80k in my 401k. 401k in my 401k felt miles away. This board has been a constant in my research to build wealth and I thank everyone for their insight and support. Congrats to everyone else celebrating milestones!

Thanks, I shared the news here on this site.PhillyPhan wrote: ↑Fri Aug 28, 2020 8:30 pm Kudos on the second comma, hope you are celebrating in some manner.
Then I shared the news with my spouse who is always scared of markets dropping and all our savings evaporating in ether - so she was not too impressed.
Now I am enjoying a quiet beer (Bell's Oberon) and letting the feeling wash over me. It is a little anti-climactic - I have waited for today for a long time but now that its here... meh... upwards and onwards I guess.

The equation on the graph caught my eye. For grins, I’ve calculated where you will be after forty years. Let me the first to congratulate on cracking $7M!

Re: Post your Financial Milestone Announcements Here
That cracked me up! I checked - your calculation is right of course - and I am a little disappointed that the magic of compounding is only taking me so far as 7MM. Still, when I started, I had a lifetime goal of 5MM in Net Worth - so can't complain much.
