Interest In forming North Texas Boglehead Group

Post by Rob54keep »

I am interested in forming of a Boglehead group in the Frisco/Prosper/McKinney TX area of North Texas (this is the new Jerry Jones territory)

I know that there is a DFW Diehards but they meet at a location 25-30 miles from the area that we are located. Are there any other Bogleheads in this area that would be interested in forming a group and meeting monthly at an agreed upon location?

This thread is now in the Local Chapters and Bogleheads Community forum (local chapter).

Did this ever gain any traction? I'd be interested in meeting up with other bogleheads in the area.

I would think there are more than enough Bogleheads in your area to get a Local Chapter going.

Let's see if a few more folks respond so we can get a Chapter established.

Here is a previous quote from Mel on Chapter startup criteria:

"If you get five or more Bogleheads who are interested in forming the Local Chapter and one of you agrees to be the Local Chapter Coordinator, contact me via PM with your name and an email address that you'd use for this purpose (suggest you get one just for this purpose since it will be public). I'll then add your group and contact info to the Local Chapters Map so others can find and contact you.

The Coordinator doesn't have to be an investing guru. Rather, he/she would communicate with the members right here about meeting dates, locations, times, agendas, etc."

So far we have FOUR that are interested.

Can't believe there aren't a lot more North TX Bogleheads who'd like to get a Local Chapter going.

I would in no way discourage your attempt to form a chapter close to where you live but 25-30 miles from DFW is pretty darn close. If the chapter in DFW meets regularly, why not make the drive?

The average commute to attend monthly meetings for the members of Sacramento Area Bogleheads is about 45 minutes but we draw in regular attendees from much more distant locales.

Another thought — you could jump start your group by agreeing to meet at DFW for a few months until you have enough people who want to break off a chapter and begin meeting in your area.

Just sayin’ :happy

I drive about 100 miles from East Texas to go to the Irving meeting on occasion. Your proposed area isn't much closer to me, but I would consider it if you get a nucleus.

Did this ever go anywhere?

I am in Paris Texas. I’d like to participate in a North Texas group. Even me and a couple of others over coffee.

Bonham? Greenville? Sherman? Paris? Even nearer dfw

Thanks for the lead. Is it a closed group that requires an invitation?

I tried the link in the chapter list and it failed. I also tried searching for Dfwdiehards in yahoo groups with no result found.

Is the contact for Ramesh still good for the group or should I contact someone else for the date/time.

I live in Plano and often attend the dfwdiehards meetings in Irving. FWIW it's about a 20 minute drive from my home near George Bush and the Tollway, not too bad. I'm happy to see others in the Plano/Frisco area but worry a little about splitting an already small group.

Ramesh isn't involved anymore but the subscribe link should still be good.

It still boggles (no pun intended) my mind that there are so few people interested in an area like Frisco/Plano. DFW is a large area and only one small group is viable?

Hello all, bumping this one. Given the current state of things, I know a public meeting is not likely to happen but I'm still interested.

Any thoughts to using teams, skype etc to kick things off?

We could setup a Zoom meeting this weekend. I will PM the other individuals that were interested and see what level of interest still remains.

Please check your PM (personal messages) and send me your email address and I will send the Zoom ID and password for this Saturday's initial meeting. So far only 2 are signed up.

The DFW group is still around, though it covers the whole metroplex (not the smaller area for which the OP wanted to form a separate group). If you're interested in the DFW group, PM me your email address and I'll provide it to our coordinator.

Again, if you get five or more (looks like you've already got that #) and one of you contacts me via PM and agrees to be the Local Chapter Coordinator, I'll get your group up and running and you can take it from there.

This page has correct information on the local DFW Bogleheads group.

https://www.bogleheads.org/blog/portfol ... ogleheads/

The email on that page still works; however, since then I have created the email DFWBogleheads@gmail.com. Feel free to email for information on the DFW local group.

We are currently meeting once every three months in person at Jason's Deli, and the rest of the time on Zoom.

Meetings are announced on this tapatalk group (which is linked to in the thread above, here it the link:)

https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/dfwdiehards/

There will be a Zoom meeting Saturday, January 8 at 2:00 central. Email DFWBogleheads@gmail.com for the zoom link if you would like to participate.

The next in-person meeting will be February 12 at Jason's Deli in Irving.

Suggest you start a new thread with your request. Label it with the new area and see if you get five folks who are interested and one of you agrees to be the Local Chapter Coordinator. If that happens, then I'll get your new chapter up and running.
