Salt Lake City (or Wasatch Front) Bogleheads? Or Both?

Post by FireflyGlow »

Posting this to gauge interest in the forum for a chapter in the Salt Lake City, UT area.

There are 3 or 4 of us that have discussed setting up a chapter and meetings would likely take place in the Sandy/Draper area to be centrally located. But, that is flexible.

If you are interested, or know someone who might be, please PM me or comment below. We are looking to set up a meeting after the holidays, sometime in January, and maybe meeting quarterly.

Thanks and we look forward to hearing from you.

Sandy/Draper seems to make the most sense based on the feedback of the people who have expressed interest so far. About half the folks are in SL County and half in UC. So a central location in south SL County and close to the 15 makes sense.

Local chapters in other cities seem to have different presentations on topics that would appeal to Bogleheads, such as investing, different vehicles for savings, etc. I was thinking that the first meeting maybe could be a roundtable meet and greet and no real formal agenda, maybe just talking about their financial goals for the new year or things they'd like to accomplish in 2016.

Already responded to the PM, but I'm in Pleasant Grove. Like everybody else, definitely interested, but I can't guarantee that my schedule will make it possible.

OK, it's official. We now have a Salt Lake City Bogleheads Local Chapter. TNL has agreed to be the Local Chapter Coordinator. I'll have your group and contact info added to the Local Chapters map so others can find you.

TNL and chapter members can continue to use this sub-forum for communications.

Good luck to the SLC Bogleheads!

Awesome! I just found this site and this is near where I live. I hope I can make the July meeting, and this subject is very timely for me with a 529 in place and a kiddo entering high school.

I sent an email to the chapter address. I live in Moab so will likely be unable to make meetings but would be interested in knowing what is going on.

Would any Bogleheads in Utah be interested in meeting this Saturday morning in Draper again? I'll be in the area for a family reunion that afternoon. 8 am at Kneaders again? I was hoping to discuss a somewhat risky investment that is available to me and others, and somewhat unique to Utah. I've been a traditional index fund and indexed ETF investor for a long time, but this is something I'd like to bounce off of others before I go any further.

I'm always interested in meeting, though I live in northern Utah and would need some heads-up before meeting. And meeting further north would always be welcome, if others can do that. We've met south of Salt Lake in the past.

I'm not planning any trips south any time soon, but if others want to try meeting one Saturday morning, I will try to make it work.

Anybody still going to SLC bogleheads? Anybody new want to take the reins? I showed up to one supposed meeting and nobody was there and got no response from the email or on here. Does anybody different want to take the lead? I'm really excited about the possibility of meeting like minded people and hopefully learning.
Sincerely,
Hopeful future SLC boglehead attendee

I'm not one of the organizers but I attended the May 5 meeting. There was road work up and down the street making it difficult to find the building. The organizer was out of town and I think the presenter had to be at a soccer game, but we had a nice time just chatting. It turns out that Bogleheads are busy people, who would have guessed? As far as I know the September 8 meeting is still on.

Ok. I went to the March 3rd meeting and nobody was there, so I was unsure if there were still meetings going on . . . . there just wasn't a great way to contact anybody if you were a new attendee and then cookymonster asked if May 5 meeting was still a go on May 4th, and nobody responded so I assumed it wasn't a go, plus I didn't want to drive for 45 minutes to have coffee by myself again. I will plan on attending the Sept 8th meeting and give it another go.

Ouch. Sorry about that. I didn't attend the March meeting, but looking back through my emails it appears to have been moved to the 10th. If you want to PM me I can arrange for any emails I get to be automatically forwarded to you, or you can try to get on the mailing list.

That would be great Telemark. Thanks! I also emailed the listserve a few times but it doesn't seem to be sticking. That's why I thought things had just stopped and was hoping somebody would jump start the group again. I'll PM you a few days before the next meeting. I think it just sounds like unfortunate timing on my part. Thanks again!
