Seattle Chapter?
Hey I noticed that the Seattle chapter has a dead email
Chapter 8 - Seattle
Contact Tyrone (boglety@yahoo.com)
Would anyone be opposed if I started a meetup group for Seattle that met once a month?
Thanks.

If you'd like to volunteer to be the new Seattle Local Chapter coordinator, Tyrone, then PM me with an email address that you want to use (suggest you get one you'll only use for this purpose, since it will be public). I'll then make the change on the Local Chapter Map so others can find and contact you.zmcpherson wrote:Hey I noticed that the Seattle chapter has a dead email

Sorry about that. Thanks for the correction. Hopefully McPherson will get enough prospective members and then contact me via PM as I previously posted.dickenjb wrote:Mel - I think Tyrone has stopped answering his email and it is McPherson who is offering to take over.Mel Lindauer wrote:If you'd like to volunteer to be the new Seattle Local Chapter coordinator, Tyrone, then PM me with an email address that you want to use (suggest you get one you'll only use for this purpose, since it will be public). McPherson,
Go for it!
I'd suggest alternate meetings between early evening downtown, and weekends in Bellevue. But it depends on others' interest. Summery might be hard. Hopefully enough fish will bite.
Cheers

Re: Seattle Chapter Dead....
I would be up for joining the monthly events
Re: Seattle Chapter Dead....
I tried getting a couple of get togethers going and no one showed up. Subsequent people had better luck.

Is anyone going to volunteer to be the Local Chapter coordinator? If so, contact me via PM and we'll get things set up.

What type of duties would the Local Chapter coordinator need to perform?Mel Lindauer wrote:Is anyone going to volunteer to be the Local Chapter coordinator? If so, contact me via PM and we'll get things set up.

Re: Seattle Chapter?
Not a lot is required. I did this in Denver for several meetings.
Basically: tell people ''let's get together. What do we want to talk about?" Help the group choose, or make an executive decision, for when and where to meet (coffee shop, library, hotel ball room). Post/email/PM that the meeting is on. Be the first person to show up.
It really depends on enough people showing up, and being willing to participate.

Re: Seattle Chapter?
That's basically it in a nutshell. Communicate with the members (you can use this Local Chapters sub-forum to do so) about meeting dates, times, locations, topics/agendas, etc. The Local Chapter Coordinator doesn't have to be an investment guru; rather simply a good organizer and communicator.cowboyinasia wrote:Not a lot is required. I'd be happy to volunteer. Longtime lurker, so I can't PM yet. Mel, let me know what the next step is, and I'll get started.

Our new "leader" has exactly one post!

Re: Seattle Chapter?
Now I have two.
I've set up seattlebogleheads@gmail.com if anyone wants to contact me via email.
I like the idea of alternating between Seattle and the Eastside. For the first meeting, let's pick the location that more people prefer. Let me know if Seattle or the Eastside works better for you.
As far as date, we'll make sure to get this in before the October Bogleheads Conference. That way those who are attending can meet prior to the conference.
Once we know Seattle vs the Eastside for the first meeting, I'll work on location and date.
Looking forward to this!

Thanks, Delconte, for picking up the mantle. I'd be interested in attending (the west side would probably be easiest for me).

Another vote for Seattle. Thanks.
Re: Seattle Chapter?
East.
We can meet in the middle on Mercer Island. I have no idea where.
Maybe we can get Bill Schultheis to let us borrow his coffee house.

Re: Seattle Chapter?
Eastside vote. Fall City would be nice.
More seriously Mercer Island isn't a bad idea. Perhaps borrow a room at their swank community center, or at the library. Off the top of my head I can't think of a large coffee shop or diner there, but there probably is.

Mercer Island or Eastside.

Re: Seattle Chapter?
East side works better for me. Instead of Mercer Island, why not Bellevue. The difference in distance is negligible.

I'm interested, too. Either side, as long as it alternates. Mercer Island has multiple Starbucks shops.

I'm south, so I'm fine with Seattle or Bellevue.

Kitsap county here.
Walking distance from the ferry landing in Seattle would be nice.

Another vote for Eastside, easier for parking and all.

Re: Seattle Chapter?
Since traffic is atrocious in Seattle and Bellevue between 4:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. my vote would be to have the meeting on a weekend. I'm on the west side, but I don't mind commuting as long as I don't have to deal with rush hour traffic. I'll do my best to make it to the meeting whenever and wherever it is held.
Re: Seattle Chapter?
+1 on this. I work at Lynnwood and live in Bothell. It would be really difficult to drive to Seattle in a week day. Bellevue maybe.ConcernedKid wrote:Since traffic is atrocious in Seattle and Bellevue between 4:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. my vote would be to have the meeting on a weekend. I vote for weekends, since I also live on the Eastside. I work up north. Late afternoon would be best for me.
Re: Seattle Chapter?
I just joined but not so smart as some can I come anyhow?
Re: Seattle Chapter?
I am in, delconte. Just let us know when and where. If I can make it, I will be there; if not, I will aim for the next one.
Thank you,
Joe

Re: Seattle Chapter?
Give me at least 14 days advance notice in the summer and 7 days notice so that I can book passage on a Amtrak Cascades train. Coming from down south, beyond the big river. After that I'll slug my way to the meeting place.

Re: Seattle Chapter?
That's a good point. And the parking may be easier. What with all the sprawl Bellevue is pretty central anymore.Erhan wrote:East side works better for me. Instead of Mercer Island, why not Bellevue. The difference in distance is negligible.
How about the Whole Foods by NE 8th. They have outdoor seating in case the weather is still nice, plus indoor tables if the drizzle has arrived. And coffee! The Bellevue Library is another option. Their website claims five meeting rooms reservable at no charge. Both of those are easy to drive to, and can be done by public transport.
The last weekend in September works for me. I'd suggest Saturday afternoon.
Re: Seattle Chapter?
Thanks for all of the feedback. I'm working on scheduling this. Stay tuned.
