It appears I missed the August meeting. I am very interested in joining your group for your next meeting. How can I get on your list?
My husband and I are recent retirees and have most assets with Vanguard and would love a chance to meet others.
Thanks,
Jeanne

I too missed the August meeting and plan to attend in November. I'd like to be added to the group list. I tried to PM, but the system says "We are sorry, but you are not authorized to use this feature. You may have just registered here and may need to participate more to be able to use this feature." I'll keep trying, though!

This is a reminder for the meeting tomorrow (Saturday).

I'm bringing some of the extra Bogleheads Conference handouts (paperback publications) and will give them to those who did not attend the conference.

Hi everyone,

This is only my second post on the forum.

I am a huge follower of the Bogleheads and would love to attend a future meeting in the Philadelphia area.

I live in nepa and am about 2 hrs away via the ne-extension of the pa turnpike.

Any suggestions would be truly appreciated.

My first post here. I am a moderate n00b with investing but have a good friend who recommended Bogleheads to me and has helped me along the way. I am looking to attend the Philly Chapter meeting on Feb. 4, 2017 in KOP. Any directions or information for this would be helpful, thank you.

I just wanted to thank everyone who presented and shared at my first meeting.

I also would like to thank everyone who stayed after the meeting and spoke with Tim and me.

The lectures were full of an abundance of prudent information.

It was a pleasure to spend an afternoon with likeminded people who are willing to share their investing wisdom with others.

I look forward to attending the May meeting.

Best,

Likewise, it was a pleasure to meet everyone. Here are the wiki links for the topics we discussed at the meeting:

- Retiree Portfolio Model, this rather imposing spreadsheet contains a section that will help you with Roth conversions. If anyone has a question on the spreadsheet, by all means ask in the support thread: Retiree Portfolio Model

- Social Security tax impact calculator, this is PapaGeek's "hump" spreadsheet.* The graphs from the presentation (how Roth Conversion can impact your Social Security taxes) are made from this spreadsheet.

From my impromptu discussion:

- Remember to focus on the "big picture". What's discussed at these meetings may not apply to your situation. If you are paying 1% AUM (Assets Under Management) to a financial advisor who's got you into high cost funds, there are bigger fish to fry than worrying about a Roth Conversion. (Group discussion on this point.)

- Asset allocation, the section "Ability, willingness, and need" is the key to setting your asset allocation - the single most import factor that determines your portfolio's return. Follow the link to Risk tolerance.

* Sorry, we should have mentioned his forum username at the meeting. There's no relation to me.

To all chapter members that were present at the Feb 4th meeting: thank you again for the conversation, advice and friendship. I look forward to scouring the forums more and attending meetings in the future.

Sue, I couldn't keep notes fast enough, I simply put my phone down and recorded much of your segment of the meeting. It's advice that will last a lifetime and I'm glad I have it recorded :)

Thank you all again, keep in touch.

I hope to attend the next meeting, if only to meet some of you!

The Google Calendar event goes from 11 - 12. Is that pretty typical? Unfortunately, I'll need to leave right after lunch in order to make it to New York City for the 5 Boro Bicycle Tour.

The meeting is scheduled for 2 hours, from 11 AM - 1 PM. I fixed the Google calendar entry: Upcoming events

If you're local and within a short commute - stop on by to say quick hi. Otherwise, you'll probably want to take the bike tour.

FYI - We're putting local chapter info in the blog, see: Bogleheads Local Chapters: Now in the Bogleheads Blog!

If anyone would like to update the content, post here or in the above thread. (I'm one of the blog editors.)

While I live in Bethlehem, work in Philly, I leverage trains a lot and getting to KoP is going to be a bit problematic.

I'd also like to thank the chapter coordinator and presenters for a very "enthusiastic" discussion.

To clarify, Erin Arvedlund (journalist from “The Inquirer”) was ill and did not attend the meeting.

Boglehead meeting in KIng of Prussia, PA

Post by jxm3546 »

Philly Inquirer yesterday ran an article on this web forum. Also mentioned chapters that get together 4 times a year. Do you need to sign up for this or do you just show up? It's scheduled for May 12th in King of Prussia. Thanks
