Average Age of Bogleheads Posters
[2012 thread bumped in 2021 --admin LadyGeek]
OK, I'm an old dude of 78 but I get the feeling that most of the posters, particularly on Personal Consumer Issues are in their 20's and 30's.

And *I* get the impression that most posters are in their 60's or 70's.
I am in none of the age ranges mentioned so far, however.

Re: Average Age of Bogleheads Posters
I speculate that the average age of "Bogleheads" posters is 59-1/2.
That average is computed weighted by the # of posts over the last six months...

Being 63 at the present time, I guess the average of all my ages would be 32.

71 years of age.
I would have said 71 but was advised that:

Don't forget to thank yourself for setting aside money to invest. I am incredibly grateful to have been alerted to Jack Bogle's investment philosophy at a young age, but without the discipline to set aside my hard-earned money and forgo current consumption for the sake of a prosperous retirement the investment philosophy alone will not build wealth.
This 28 year old is glad to have found this forum and benefit from the wisdom of the group.

It is easy to get a median between 30 and 39 when it is two of the choices and the 50s don't appear at all, although you would think the two different versions of a 20 something would have received more votes.mptfan wrote:According to this poll, the median age is between 30 and 39.

Is that a cap-weighted average?
Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure nineteen nineteen and six, result happiness; Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure twenty pounds ought and six, result misery.
Re: Average Age of Bogleheads Posters
My average age last year was 59 1/2. I expect it to be around 60 1/2 this year.

I can't speak for posters here, but I have some Boglehead-themed videos on YouTube. About half the hits come from this forum. Here are the stats according to YouTube (how they know, I have no idea). Sorry I cannot get the formatting to stick.
So 45-54 is my main age demographic, followed closely by 55-64.
Here is a sample link:

I don't think the average age is that low. My guess would be somewhere between 20 and 90, let's say 55. Hmm, I wonder how I came up with that number?fareastwarriors wrote:24.
The next two questions should be what is the standard deviation of the distribution of ages of boglehead posters and what is the skewness of the distribution of ages of boglehead posters.

I think that those stats are for those that are registered with youtube. I imaging that there are a large percentage of people like me that do not have an account with youtube. The only time I have seen youtube ask for registration is for "adult/explicit" videos. You can just do a google search for the said video and find probably 10 other sites offering without registration.......I am 29.88.Boglenaut wrote:I can't speak for posters here, but I have some Boglehead-themed videos on YouTube. I've always had the impression that the average age was around mid-50s...call it 55. I'd also guess the median would be in the mid-40s. I'm very surprised at the number of people older than 65. My parents are in their early 60s and would not be able to figure out how to make a post. Maybe I'm just used to technologically challenged older folks.

Age - a way of keeping score, nothing but a number.
My guess is early 50's - the age, not year born.

Re: Average Age of Bogleheads Posters
One of the things that I enjoy about this forum is that the posters form a different sort of cross-section of society than they do elsewhere. Yes, there are a disproportionate number of high earners compared with the world at large, but they aren't all doctors or executives or what-have-you...there are a healthy number of entrepreneurs and skilled professionals of all sorts, as well as people changing careers or just looking for their first job.
I enjoy the chance to discuss things with people twice my age and half my age, sometimes in the same thread (ok, maybe half is a bit of a stretch but only a bit). I don't always agree with them, but I appreciate the open exchange, debate and consideration.
