More interesing to me would be what the average age a Boglehead was when they found this site.

Or, how long they have been a Boglehead (or have basically followed this philosophy) without relapse.

My average age is about 29.4, which fits because I still feel like a graduate student even though I'm getting ready to retire in a few years.

One of the things that I enjoy about this forum is that the posters form a different sort of cross-section of society than they do elsewhere. Yes, there are a disproportionate number of high earners compared with the world at large, but they aren't all doctors or executives or what-have-you...there are a healthy number of entrepreneurs and skilled professionals of all sorts, as well as people changing careers or just looking for their first job.

I enjoy the chance to discuss things with people twice my age and half my age, sometimes in the same thread (ok, maybe half is a bit of a stretch but only a bit). I don't always agree with them, but I appreciate the open exchange, debate and consideration.

perspective. As you go through life's cycles, starting out, early, mid and career peak, and then retirement your perspective changes. I suppose the younger folks might find that a tad more difficult to see than those who have experienced it first hand.

39. I heard about bogleheads.com from the Motley Fool discussion boards and related books. I've been investing in a 3fund index model for about 12/13 years, pretty much only in my 401k though. I'm sure I picked up the concepts from some bogle-positive books but can't remember which ones by now.

I feel like there's been a palpable influx of (relatively) young posters on a forum that definitely has traditionally skewed towards the older crowd.

The US* median age is ~38 so the idea the median here would be lower or even the same as that is implausible IMO/IME. If there are any minors here they are both very precocious and discrete about themselves. Likewise I sometimes get the feeling that frequent posters in genuinely theoretical threads on 'Investing Theory' might be in their 20's but that seems unusual in 'advice' type threads where people talk about themselves more. Median must be at least mid to late 40's I'd guess and if ad hoc polls show much lower it's probably selection bias or non-scientific aspect of such polls. That's speaking of people who post and naturally one's impression is affected by volume of posts per person.

*where the great bulk of posters are from, but other rich countries which seem to account for almost all other posters generally have similar to somewhat higher median ages than the US.

Age 53.

Been lurking on BH for just a few years (and untold hours) but it turns out I’ve been practicing much of the BH approach for over 25 years.

I’ve learned a lot here though.

Just turned 48. I have watched this forum for sometime and started posting a year ago or so. I have been following many BH's principals my entire life and I still learn a lot on this board or find things I should be considering or taking advantage of. I have shared this board with many friends and family as well as it is not "rocket science" to get your finances on track.
