You rarely really know what drives a sell-off because every seller has a different reason to sell. But the big news today is CPI. And sellers are not always rational. Big sell offs occur when tax proposals are made by the President when Congress sets the taxes.
"Sell in May, go away"....
Who knows?
Exactly! Is anyone really surprised that it's May and we're having a sell-off.
A limerick
Sell in May and go away
A false adage that some convey
Getting out and getting in
To Bogleheads, a sin
It's time in the market, do not stray
I give it a 6 out of 10.
Next time reference the island of Nantucket somewhere in there for bonus points.
A limerick
There was a girl from Nantucket
Who had all her eggs in one basket
She moved most of it to a 3 fund index
And the remainder as a down payment on a duplex
Low cost index puts more money in her pocket
How many bonus points do I get?

There once was a girl from Nantucket
Who had all her eggs in one bucket
She put it all in a 3 fund index
So she could save for a duplex
And now she's spending on budget
(Sorry, couldn't resist.)
To some, the glass is half full. To others, the glass is half empty. To an engineer, it's twice the size it needs to be.

A+ !!
Retired life insurance company financial executive who sincerely believes that ”It’s a GREAT day to be alive!”
There was a job not for the meek
Requires more than an irregular peek
She must have an iron fist
Of this poem, you get the gist
It's our favorite moderator, LadyGeek
There was a thread about falling stock
The market, sometimes it will shock
It is usually fairly myopic
You best stay on topic
Or LadyGeek will come and knock

Some say the Dow will end in frost,
Some say in snow;
From what I’ve gained and what I’ve lost
I hold with those who favor frost;
But if it has to hit a low
I think I know enough of cost
To say that for destruction snow
Could mean we lost
A lot of dough.

There is an advisor that tricks us
And takes in a fee while he kicks us
He shows up so dapper
And sells us a wrapper
But never explains about VXUS
Is it just me, or does Billy Joel come to mind?

I had to take a hammer to some of the lines, but they all scan now
In a proper double dactyl, one of the lines in the second verse should be a single six-syllable word, e.g. hexasyllabically. With that in mind, here is a revised second verse
Carefully practicing
nonspontaneity,
staying the course makes in-
vesting a breeze.
There once was a man named Jack
With low cost investing he had a knack
He said stay the course
Wild schemes don't endorse
And your accounts will be in the black

I came across this limerick on the Internet (was written during the finacial crisis back in 2008):
I shudder when opening mail,
And my sinking accounts make me wail.
I would sure like to beat
Up those guys on the Street,
But I fear that I can’t afford bail.
