Don’t worry about TTL. He sometimes disappears for three months at a time and when he returns he just says “I needed a break” which is a good enough reason in my book.

Remember when Forrest was running, and suddenly his running spell was over? That is what I mean by a Forrest Gump moment. Some members post prolifically, and suddenly they are just gone.

Some of those MIA might have health issues, or have passed, or just lost interest.

That person joined about a year ago and it was a prolific poster for a while, averaging 20 posts per day.

That's part of the story but I am not able to discuss it here so if anyone is terribly interested you can pm me.

Some folks kind of drift away from the forum, but that pattern usually shows up in less frequent posts for a while before they stop. I always appreciated dm200's viewpoint, it was a good contrast to the high earners that are common here. But dm200 (and earlier professor emeritus) both were posting frequently up to the day before suddenly dropping offline. I take it as the reminder of the biggest uncertainty in retirement planning.

Professor Emeritus posted that his wife had become disabled, shortly before he stopped posting.
I sort of assumed that he needed to help her, more than any of us, after that.

He and I had been communicating (via PM) about a Vanguard policy, and that suddenly stopped as well.

I hope he/she/they are okay, as with any others here who... aren't here.

I know this. I was asking if anyone knows if they moved to another forum where they are contributing.
Ah, apologies. My bad.
No worries. It is sad to see them gone. A few educated individuals can significantly improve the discussion on these forums and these are three particularly impactful people. To be honest, each of them has created threads (and countless posts) which have significantly altered my understanding of finance.
I do find it a bit amazing the life that Hedgefundie’s Excellent Adventure has taken on and he, or maybe she, has vanished without a trace. You can find countless YouTube videos and articles explaining and analyzing the adventure, and they all reference this anonymous Bogleheads poster. It’s significant enough in investing circles that I’m surprised he doesn’t want to take credit for it.

And that is one reason why you need to be careful listening to various advice. Some people here are 100% reliant on savings with no pensions or other income. Others can cover all expenses with pension(s). My friend said his pension covers all his needs so his 401K savings are simply invested and mostly forgotten about. A big, big, difference. One reason that I don't jump on those that want to buy a SPIA to gain some reliable income despite the low payouts.

This is not goodbye so long as y'all will have me on bogleheads.org, but a courtesy note that I am planning to post less often. You are welcome to PM me here and you should still see me pop in on a thread from time to time. To avoid rumors of my demise, my health is fantastic, my life couldn't be better, I still appreciate fresh perspectives, and I'm still an enormous finance geek. It would be faster to contact me on Reddit under the same handle if you just can't stand the loss. I might also comment on your posts to the Rational Reminder forum, though I chose a different handle there. You can also find me at a poker table, hard at work for dollars, laughs, and good times. I feel lucky. :P

Thank you. On my end, the poster's last active showed up as "Last active:-" but yeah, it's been about 3 weeks since they last posted.
I've seen that, too, the " - " [hyphen] in the "Last active" field, and don't know what that means.
