Sharing Morningstar Charts

Post by bertilak »

Is there still a way to share Morningstar charts? Live or snapshot.

I take a screenshot of the chart, upload to https://imgur.com/, then post link here using the img tags.

I did a screen capture this morning and shared a M* chart in another thread. One can also click on 'Share this chart" link found below the legacy charts. When I do that I get this URL and instructions to paste it:
https://quotes.morningstar.com/chart/fu ... A%5B%5D%7D

Doesn't work for me. There is no "share this chart" link. Do you have a paid subscription? I do not.

There is such a link on the chart you link to but not on what I get to from looking at charts directly on Morningstar's web pages.

Well, I did use the adjective "legacy." But now you have a link to the legacy chart tool and can use that going forward with its "share" tool. You're welcome!

And I do not have a paid subscription nor am I registered at all at that site.

I must be missing something. If I put VTSAX in the "Quote" box and press enter I get a failure:
  • This site can’t be reached
    The connection was reset.
    Try:

    Checking the connection
Checking the proxy and the firewall
    Running Windows Network Diagnostics
    ERR_CONNECTION_RESET

Don't do that. Edit the URL directly. Not all the legacy stuff works anymore, but some does. It is up to you to figure it out.

Thanks. Here is a link that works for VTSAX: https://quotes.morningstar.com/chart/fu ... XNAS:vtsax. Easy to edit.

bertilak,

here's another link that gets you straight to the legacy portfolios view, if that interests you too.

Thanks. That work well also.

My browser is a little happier with https.

The region and culture stuff can be left off and that may even work better for non-us users (perhaps; don't know).

Code: Select all

 http://quotes.morningstar.com/chart/fund/chart?t=VFIAX
The above is the link I use to get to the old-style growth charts I like. I simply edit the "VFIAX" ticker at the end to be whatever fund ticker, stock ticker, or Morningstar ID I want to chart the growth of.

I'm baffled that you don't have the "Share this chart" link as pictured at the bottom below.
It shows up in every browser I have, including my phone (using 'Brave' browser)

Ah, I hadn't noticed the missing "s", but that's easy to remedy by just inserting an extra letter, and you're right about the region & culture:
https://portfolios.morningstar.com/fund/summary?t=VIOV

If I ask my browser about it, Firefox says "Parts of this page are not secure (such as images)." This doesn't concern me. And of course the "Share this chart" link for the graphs is a nice feature.
