Double checking securities held by IB Ireland

Post by NickG »

Hello. I recently found out that there is a way to check the reported securities and cash in Interactive Brokers Central Europe, which is regulated by the Hungarian National Bank. Here are the steps to do it for IB CE:

"1. The national bank called Magyar Nemzeti Bank (mirror translation: Hungarian National Bank) in short MNB has a query site [https://eszlaweb.mnb.hu/Lekerdezo] luckily in english too, where you can query your securities and cash reported by your broker. My assumption is that this can help verify your holdings and save you from fraud.

2. At the link above there's a "Belépési azonosító / Login identifier" which changes yearly and you can find it at IB's Account Management site after logging in under Settings/Account Settings/ bottom right side Reporting / MNB Login ID.

3. There's "Havi jelszó / Monthly password" which is for accessing a given months report on the MNB's site. You can get this password from a monthly statement on IB. Same Account Management site after logging in, but under Reports and Tax Docs / Statements/ Here I just generate one of them for a given month and in that statement report file under Account Information there's a MNB Password field, that's the Monthly password."

I am trying to find a similar service offered by the Central Bank of Ireland and so far I can't find anything.
Are you aware if there is a way to do the same for clients of IB Ireland?

I am not aware of Irish alternative. I thing there is none. The measure in Hungary was introduced after the broker scandals of 2015.
