A relative was sent this "hypothetical example of costs" by insurance agent when shopping for a supplemental Plan G on top of Part A, B
How realistic/correct is this?
Particularly that 80% "Medicare Payment Rate"? Another online example of a $700,000.00 four week hospital bill with 20% patient responsibilty came to a total owed by patient to $1,484.00 (not $140,000.00)
Medicare Plan G (with only Part A+B)

Yes, Part B has 20% coinsurance. Hospital stays are Part A, not Part B. There is no Part A coinsurance for the first 60 hospital days. $1484 is just the Part A deductible. So everything looks correct.susa wrote: ↑Sun Sep 19, 2021 1:30 pm A relative was sent this "hypothetical example of costs" by insurance agent when shopping for a supplemental Plan G on top of Part A, B

The 80% medicare pays is of it's approved charges and not of what is charged by providers i.e.80% of Medicare approved charges.

You certainly Do Not need an agent to purchase the Medicare part C “G” plan. You can purchase directly from the insurance company, or thru an organization like AARP. Shop around for rates. FWIW, Medicare parts A & B and the part C “G” plan provide the best coverage DW & I have ever had, at the least cost. After monthly premiums, our total out of pocket(deductible) with the “G” plan is $203 each.

Okay. You win. Medicare Supplemental Insurance - G plan. Thank you!Chuckles960 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 19, 2021 7:44 pmThere's no such thing. Part C is Medicare Advantage, which replaces medicare with private insurance.

All Plan Gs are the same. Only the monthly cost varies. We started with a broker, and had what we thought was a good price - it kept going up. I heard Aetna was better price. Contacted Aetna on internet and ended up with a broker, but it was only $103 a month for me, Vs $147 for the previous one. Shop around.
