April 15 Federal Estimate Fail

Post by JerryB »

I schedule my Federal Estimated payments through a popular Tax program, but the April 15 payment was not made. Provider blames IRS. Has anyone else had this problem? Thanks !!

Edit 4/22: Correct Estimate payment cleared 1 week late !!!!

This is the 2020 Amount Due; I think OP is asking about 2021 Estimates.

I was unaware that one could pay ES taxes via tax software. I've been using EFTPS for years. I have not heard of any delays in ES payments (or even amount due payments) made via EFTPS or Direct Pay.

There is a thread on the forum about delays in direct debit of 2020 payments established with filed returns.

The "schedule...through a popular Tax program" seems a common root cause.

+1 - no issues using EFTPS

I have had my tax program set up estimate payments for many years with no issues.

And people have scheduled direct debit through tax programs for many years with no issues. That was then, this is now....

From one of the popular tax software vendors' product for tax professionals:
We discovered that 1040-ES Q1 Payments were not withdrawn from returns filed on or after March 25th, 2021. Returns after this date instead have the Q1 amount combined with the Q2 payment scheduled to occur on June 15th, 2021. The calculations and printed returns were correct. There was an issue with the electronic filing transmission to the IRS.

Maybe their consumer product did the same thing?

All future electronic IRS payments correctly show up on IRS site.
