How much does your employer sponsered health insurance cost you?
I'm curious to see what is considered normal to be paying. For me its currently $500 per month, for just me no spouse or children from my local mid sized employer. Its a great plan that has zero deductible, great coverage, and sponsered my IVF a couple of years ago However the rates consistently go up every year and quite a bit too. When i joined this company around 6 years ago the same plan was in the $100 a month range.
Re: How much does your employer sponsered health insurance cost you?
I pay about $450/month in premiums for a plan that covers me and spouse. The company pays 3 times that amount... (I.e. the employee pays just 25% of the cost where I work).lamdan wrote: ↑Mon Apr 12, 2021 10:28 pm I'm curious to see what is considered normal to be paying. Re: How much does your employer sponsered health insurance cost you?
You have zero deductible. That's why your premium has been going up. You also have "great coverage". If you went to healthcare.gov and tried to purchase a similar type plan, how much would it cost you? My guess is your employer is heavily subsidizing your plan but as the costs keep rising due to plan usage and inflation, the sharing of premiums will continue.

Former employer's plan was $0/mo, now I think I'm paying $20/mo for a PPO plan.
Re: How much does your employer sponsered health insurance cost you?
Keep in mind that your employer is not the only one subsidizing you. The portion of your employer-provided health insurance that you pay is from tax-free dollars, and so is the part that your employer pays for you. I never really understood this until I had to pay for Cobra with post-tax dollars. Now, THAT is painful.
Also, your premiums go up as you get older.
You haven't told us how old you are.

My cost is about $50 a month, for just me, employer pays about $450.
It's a high-deductible plan that covers checkups (and that's about it) until $3k deductible is met, then copay (30%) up to $6k, then 100% covered after that. Employer provides some contribution to HSA account.

$0 for family high deductible plan. There are two other $0 non high deductible options, but we don’t consume much health care at this point in our lives, so the access to an HSA is the deciding factor in choosing a plan plus the company contributes $2,200 to the HSA.
Re: How much does your employer sponsered health insurance cost you?
Should be $400/mo. but at a director level they cover it.lamdan wrote: ↑Mon Apr 12, 2021 10:28 pm I'm curious to see what is considered normal to be paying. $1510/month
Highest monthly expense by a good bit. Second is auto insurance (two teenage drivers, three total cars)

before i retired it was about $200 w/ $300 deductible. As a retiree it's only $100 more.

I pay $110/month for a high deductible plan for a family of 5 (adults are 38). But the company puts $1700 towards an HSA too.

My wife is a school teacher. Insurance for the family runs about 350/mo and is pretty good overall. I work for a University and similar coverage would be twice that.
Re: How much does your employer sponsered health insurance cost you?
Currently, $0 (plus a few $ for vision and dental), and my company also contributes $1k to my HSA. Single HDHP plan.
At my previous employer, it was about $75 a month, also single HDHP plan. The deductible, coinsurance and copay were slightly higher than what I have now.

I pay $216.36/mo ($2596.32 annually) for our HDHP for my family of four. My company contributes another $2000 to the HSA.
My company tells me that they pay about $16,204 annually for my health benefit (not including the $2k I mentioned above.

$25 a week( company pays $100+ a week) high deductible plan. But there other choices
Re: How much does your employer sponsered health insurance cost you?
My HDHP costs me 40 hours per week and about $130/month. With the tax savings, HSA contributions, no-additional-fee dental coverage, it's close to free, not counting the 40 hours of working, of course.
Re: How much does your employer sponsered health insurance cost you?
I pay $134.04 /month for a high deductible family HSA plan
It used to be $42.04 / month but they added a "spousal contribution fee" because my wife works but is covered under my plan that is $23/week.
That was a (relatively) tough pill to swallow, but its still a pretty good plan. Company contributes $1800/year to the HSA.

Re: How much does your employer sponsered health insurance cost you?
Every 2 weeks I pay for self + children:
Medical: $93.69
Dental: $7.85
Vision: $6.46
HSA contribution: $238.46
$346.46 x 26 periods = $9007.96
I chose the HDHP/HSA option for medical. I think dental and vision is the mid-tier option.

Re: How much does your employer sponsered health insurance cost you?
Our HDHP has no premium and a $1500 deductible, but a lot of services are exempt from the deductible, like mental health care. Those are reimbursed 90% from the first dollar. Company puts $500 in our HSA.
We also have a regular plan available with a $500 deductible for $88/month.
Those are the rates for solo coverage. Not sure what they are if you add dependents.

Re: How much does your employer sponsered health insurance cost you?
My wife's employer covers 100% of the premium for our family HDHP. I am separately insured by a plan with my own employer for $10/month, which gives me unlimited free access to our employer-owned medical facility (where I work) and countless other benefits. Without my separate plan I would have had $4k+ in out-of-pocket costs already this year (MRIs, physical therapy and complementary therapies). I am seeing my pain specialist doc tomorrow for more imaging, strain-counterstrain therapy, and acupuncture; $0 out of pocket. We are very fortunate.
Re: How much does your employer sponsered health insurance cost you?
My wife is a teacher. Our monthly contribution for family health insurance is $1,002.67.
Re: How much does your employer sponsered health insurance cost you?
$261/mo. for family coverage HDHP ($7500 family deductible/$2500 per person deductible). That is 20% of the total cost. Employer pays the other 80% plus $1500/yr. HSA contribution. Dental is another $44/mo.

Your HSA isn’t a cost. You’re paying $2439.94 in medical premiums. That’s pretty good. My premiums are $4261.92 for wife + child.stimulacra wrote: ↑Tue Apr 13, 2021 10:35 am Every 2 weeks I pay for self + children:

Re: How much does your employer sponsered health insurance cost you?
About $475 per month, high deductible plan with HSA. Covers employee, wife, and kids, but there is a $3000 annual deductible, then it covers about 80% after that.
Re: How much does your employer sponsered health insurance cost you?
It costs me the full amount, because I pay for part of it and receive the rest in exchange for my labor.

i get free health and dental care through my employer. 5 dollar co-pay, no hsa.
its awesome for employees with larger families because there is no additional cost to cover spouse and children.

Re: How much does your employer sponsered health insurance cost you?
my wife works at a smallish tech company and pays $25 a month for family coverage. I work for a quasi state agency, they wanted me to pay $600 a month for state health insurance.....stuck with my wife's plan for $25 a month
Re: How much does your employer sponsered health insurance cost you?
As you can see, cost is all over the place and not easy to compare. Most large employers offer more than one very different option, and at different costs to different employees (more you earn, more % you pay). Can’t compare high vs low deductible, those that cover out of network vs do not, hmo vs ppo, high vs low earners.
I was able to reduce my payments moving from low to high deductible but now have much more out of pocket expenses. Glad I did it since most years I never got back what I put into the plan. But the premiums are not directly comparable.

Re: How much does your employer sponsered health insurance cost you?
I lump them together because $20 copay are a thing of the past with my HDHP/HSA, I assume max deductible for annual budgeting and kids are moderate consumers of healthcare. Whatever is left over in the HSA after the calendar year moves over to my "retirement" bucket.Jags4186 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 13, 2021 10:53 amYour HSA isn’t a cost. The "high-deductible" has been an ongoing bone of contention on and off… at best it's a lot of paperwork for some tax-advantaged space, at worst I picked a bad health plan that doesn't provide enough coverage. Leaving HSA on the table in that regard helps smooth the conversation.
My plan with wife + child would be higher. Don't know the number right off the top of my head.

I pay $195 a month premium for me and my wife, for a high ded PPO plan; $3,000 ded; $6,000 OOP maximum; and company contributes $1,000 to my HSA.
Re: How much does your employer sponsered health insurance cost you?
I pay $132.37 on my bi-weekly paychecks for a family HDHP with an HSA. Employer chips in $1500/year to the HSA.
I looked at what my employer pays for the plan on their end. Per year I pay about $3400 and my employer chips in ~$8000
The total deductible is $8500 for the family plan with 100% covered thereafter. Also has embedded individual deductibles of $4250, which helps.
It's still better than what the government marketplace offers, I can't complain too much.

Wow, maybe I need a new job? I'm paying $467 every two weeks for a high deductible plan for the family (including vision and dental). That comes with a HSA-compatible 6000/12000 deductible. Well, at least the premiums are pre-tax...

$29 every two weeks for single Kaiser coverage
My wife pays $64 every two weeks for HDHP family coverage. I could get on her plan but her company would impose a surcharge because I have access to my own coverage. She could get on mine but we don’t like the pediatricians at Kaiser.
Dental and vision are $10 more per pay period for each of us.

I have recently become an employee of a big company. My share is 300 per month for myself and 2 children. I would say the policy is good but not great and not near as good as yours. I paid about 1550 per month for the same 3 individuals for an ACA Obamacare policy until I became an employee. The coverage was not as good as what I have now (no out of network option and higher deductible).

Re: How much does your employer sponsered health insurance cost you?
I have the option to buy health insurance through my employer but have chosen to pass. We’re a family of three. For good coverage, it would cost $900/month for just me or $2,100/month for the family. For a very limited network, my option is to pay $600/month for me or $1500/month for the three of us through my employer. The employer contributes $0 and the employee pays 100% of the cost. I’m a public school teacher and my wife is a stay-at-home parent. By maxing out two IRAs, a 457b, a 403b, and contributing 10% of my salary toward a tax-deferred pension, our MAGI drops enough that the employer-offered health insurance is considered too expensive per the Affordable Care Act. We qualify for a gold plan for the whole family on the health care exchange for about $50/month and that’s how we are getting insurance these days.
Prior to 2018, my wife worked and we were getting insurance through her employer. We paid $200/month and the employer contributed $1100/month to cover the family.

Re: How much does your employer sponsered health insurance cost you?
These numbers will be from 0 to very high.
The federal government plans are 80/20 where you pay the 20% of the plan costs and that varies greatly based on the plan. You can see rates at https://www.opm.gov/healthcare-insuranc ... e/md/rates
For 2020 at my current company I pay $41 biweekly for a HD Cigna plan as a single person. That is substantially lower than what I was used to paying when I had a federal job.
Personally I'd rather pay more for a better plan. My current plan seems ok.

Nearly $1,000/month for the employee premium for family coverage for a high-deductible plan...were it not for the "family glitch" we'd be on the ACA in a heartbeat.

Small company, but I pay ~900 a month out of pocket for a family plan. That is above a set amount my employer pays a month - and if I did not use the plan, I would get paid out the difference (minus tax) at the end of the year. I do appreciate being able to see the full amount I pay for insurance and is something I think all employers should be doing. I looked at ACA a year ago and it was slightly cheaper even with it being post-tax, but at the time it wasn't enough cheaper to have the hassle of fronting the difference over the year, though if the difference keeps increasing, I may consider it

Thought it might be fitting to revive this thread to see if there have been any changes in healthcare premiums paid by employers. I'll kick us off. I work for a tech startup and would say our health benefits are less than ideal. The coverage is good through Blue Cross Blue Shield but monthly premiums are about $900 paid by employee and $500 paid my employer. This is for a High Deductible, HSA eligible plan with a family dedcutible and OOP Max of $5000. These are by far the worst benefits I have had throughout my career and have been asking if there are plans to improve this. Am I being unreasonable? Just looking to get a view on the current landscape of this.

We are on my wife's insurance, mid-size fintech company based out of Bay Area. In the last 3yrs it has gone from $0 (plus $5k contributed to HSA for family on HDP), to $128/pay period ($4k contribution to HSA for family on HDP) this year, to $207/pay period ($3500 contribution to HSA) for '24. I wonder what '25 will be like
I work for a medical facility owned by a health products megacorp and can get basic PPO coverage for just me for $5/pay period (plus I get all kinds of stuff free of charge for my entire family - all office visits, PT, labs, x-rays, $100 MRI, etc.), but family coverage would be more expensive than with my wife's employer and there's no employer HSA contribution.

Re: How much does your employer sponsered health insurance cost you?
Family is around $1k/year for HDHP with the company HSA contribution making it slightly more than "free". Of course, anything beyond preventative care has the potential to cost us thousands.
I'm happy with it. In the end, we end up paying one way (premiums) or another (out of pocket).
