Table Showing Which Tax Software (versions) Covers Which Forms?

Post by PGR »

...say the popular forms you receive like W2, 1099-INT, 1099-B, 1099-G, 1099-DIV, etc...

Software like TurboTax have many versions and somewhat vague descriptions of which version for which person like "Investors" should use Premier. What if you have say just 1099-DIVs (no 1099-Bs) - could you get away w/ Deluxe? etc...

Same for TaxAct.

Some of the newer/cheaper (or even free) tax software often provide pretty long lists of both IRS return forms and forms you receive to inform you if they can even handle your return or not which is helpful. (for example a lot of the free/cheap 3rd party providers often fail to list Form 8606 which is essential for some of us).

A complete truth table showing which forms in say the vertical axis and which software/versions across the top horizontal would be cool. Anybody run across anything like this?

Turbo Tax Deluxe disc/download version will cover all of those forms (add 1099R too).

Be careful. In the past, the disc version and the download version have not been identical. This may have changed, but in prior years the disk version could handle more complicated returns than the download.

It's the on-line version that differs from those that run on your computer (doesn't seem to matter if you downloaded or bought a disc.)
