Social Security statements after age 62

Post by Bill M »

The annual statements produced by Social Security have one line that says "if you continue working until age 62, your benefit will be about..." Once you are past age 62 this doesn't make much sense, especially since they know you have not yet applied for benefits.

This line would better be labeled "if you filed for benefits today, your benefit will be about...". The figure given on the statement includes the smaller early retirement reduction factor, and it also includes COLAs since turning 62. The figure changes monthly.

I'm not sure it if has been mentioned before (and I couldn't find it by searching, or in wiki). Apologize if it has and I missed it.
