TV service to pair with Google Fiber.

Post by dred pirate »

Currently pay $133 for ATT Uverse internet + TV.
Looking at google fiber ($70 a month).
So basically I have $63 a month to pay for various services to get what I want. (this is in addition to neflix which we already pay for).
What are my options? What I need (actually want because we really don't "need" TV).
Local networks (I know I can get via rabbit ears if necessary).
ESPN and its networks
Bally sports (the old fox sports local networks) - have to get my Canes Hockey.
the HGTV, Discovery, Nat Geo, animal plant type channels of the world.

I don't claim to be some techno wizard by any means - and only one of our TV's is a smart TV (we have three, but really only need the service on two - and could in theory get by with just our main TV and use rabbit ears on the other two since we hardly ever watch them.

IF I can only save $10 a month but have to constantly swap between services, it might not be worth it - something easy about just clikcing guide and scrolling through. I am willing to pay for that convenience.

Ideas/thoughts?

Are you in market for Hurricanes broadcasts? https://www.nhl.com/hurricanes/news/how ... -320013434

I like the Tablo DVR hooked up to an outdoor antenna and the newer google android tv chromecasts -- https://www.tablotv.com/products/tablo-quad-ota-dvr/ (just need one) https://store.google.com/us/product/chr ... v?hl=en-US (get one for each TV).

Sports are tough without a cable sub. I have https://www.disneyplus.com/welcome/disn ... spn-bundle plus a Bein soccer online sub via sling tv.

You might find YouTube TV with Google fiber a good combo.

You need Bally? I hate to say it, but you’re screwed. (I’m in the same boat). Last time I checked, the only options were traditional cable, satellite or AT&T TV. Probably looking at a minimum of $85/month for any one of those if you don’t bundle.

YouTube TV doesn’t have BSN.

Definitely do - huge canes fan - between friends with season tickets I go to 15 or so games a year, and need the games - With the change to bally it looks like it will be hard until they get on board with a huku/youtube type service - of all the options I think I am in the best situation with uverse + netflix.

Considering the google fiber people ruptured a gas line 10 feet from my front door and caused an emergent evacuation, I really don't feel overly compelled to give them my business haha
