Podcast for a Long Flight

Post by OnBoard »

I’m looking for suggestions for a podcast to listen to on an upcoming 8 hour flight.

Looking for something captivating similar to Serial.

Any recommendations?

Interesting Things Explained Well is the most enjoyable podcast I know of. It can be a little dense, but on a flight with no other distractions, it may be the perfect time to listen to it.

His series on WW1 (Countdown to Armageddon?) and Genghis Khan are excellent and engrossing. One or both of these may be behind a paywall now.

Peruse the list of guests/topics by both Tim Ferriss and Dr. Peter Attia (The Drive podcast). Long form interviews by both.

In the Dark. If you liked Serial you’ll love it.

Season 2 (Curtis Flowers) is one of the most powerful podcasts I’ve ever listened to

I love the podcast series 99% Invisible. Episodes are typically 30-45 minutes or so. My wife and I both find them consistently interesting. The theme is supposed to be "the unnoticed architecture and design that shapes our world." The variety is extraordinary, though... and the frequent guest episodes, i.e. from other podcasts, add variety. The most typical show is a long and thoughtful interview by someone who's just written an interesting book, but, well, I loved a recent episode, The Clinch, which is (of all things) a history and overview of US romance novels and their cover artwork.

There are, at the point, over a hundred available for binge-listening and very few of them are tied to current events, they are mostly just as good as when they were released.

Even if you're not into true crime, I'd highly recommend "Your Own Backyard" about the Kristin Smart disappearance; two new episodes were just published in light of recent events.

I can recommend the History of England podcast. It’s quite addictive, very informative and frequently humorous. There are currently 321 episodes so plenty to keep you occupied on a long flight. https://thehistoryofengland.co.uk/podca ... and/page/8

Listen to season 4 of Mike Duncan’s Revolutions about the Haitian Revolution. It’s relevant not only about history, but you’ll now understand more about the assassination of Haiti’s president that just happened and a ton about the politics of the US.

In general Revolutions is great, but I don’t think you have a long enough flight to digest the 65 episodes of season 3 on the French Revolution.

Really in-depth exploration of topics I would never otherwise encounter. Always interesting and fun. It's on Apple Podcasts.

I clicked on this thread to mention Wind of Change. Fascinating story well told.

Also, economist Tim Harford's series "Cautionary Tales" is fantastic.
He uses some actors (including Helena Bonham Carter) for some small parts, so it's not always him speaking.
Though he has a cool speaking voice. Brit.

And if you want to wade deeper into Malcolm Gladwell's world, the first season of Revisionist History is captivating, too.
