Office Desk

Post by raveon »

On the market for a home office desk. Found one, but I see the same desk with three different prices / specs etc. on Wayfair :?. What gives?

I look at the customer review of the Massena Desk and the actual color of the Vintage Oak looks much darker than the product image. So not interested in this. But can't tell if the Pines Ratliff Gaming Desk (which I like) is the same product as Massena Desk or different. The specs looks slightly different but am not sure. The SKU numbers are different. Anyone can tell what's going on here?

Have you considered an electric height adjustable "stand up desk" for versatility, etc?

Something like this?
(Amazon.com "Jarvis Standing Desk")

As for your links and reviews/desk. There seems to be such a huge price difference for what looks like much different.
Is there a website error?

Call Wayfair customer service.

During COVID wfh, we have purchased 3 adjustable desks for family: one electric, one with a crank, and one pneumatic. The pneumatic is our favorite but ymmv.
I get the FI part but not the RE part of FIRE.

Wayfair Customer Service?

We bought O'Sullivan desks decades ago. Top finish is worn but otherwise fine.

Got this during the WFH period. Came across it on Youtube as a nice hack.

Husky 52 in. Adjustable Height Work Table

If you're looking to add multiple VESA monitors, livestream cam, ring lights, additional lighting, it's a great platform for all of that via clamps. Very sturdy.

It looks nice enough, cheaper than most options with similar capability, and will be easy to unload on Next Door when I won't need it anymore. Or move it to the garage as a work bench.

The Ratliff Gaming Desk you linked listed particle board/chip board as the primary material for the tabletop.

That material at that price point, I would pass.

If you're going to get a cheesy, wobbly desk you might as well save your money and get something like the IKEA LINNMON ($18) and I think these are the legs that go with it, IKEA ADILS (4x $4). It's wobbly if it's free standing, but jammed into a corner it's fairly stable, and mine is rock solid since I bolted it to the wall with some brackets that I 3D
There are other legs that can go with the Linnmon top, the “BEKANT”. These are steel legs with a steel top frame and very sturdy. We have two desks and have repurposed them multiple times. When I lost the top of one moving to a storage unit and back, I replaced it with a generic top from Home Depot and is still working well.

Note that the weights are different. The more expensive model weighs more AND includes some solid wood rather than just manufactured wood. I'm not sure it would be worth $500+ more.

You might want to look at the used market. With a lot of firms going to more work from home workforces, there are some great deals out there on high end office desks and chairs. Some of the big brokers will even deliver. You might fetch a $5k desk and chair for $1500 or even less...and in a home setting, it will last for years.

I'm not sure what your budget is but I have a sit/stand desk and I love it. It is by a company called Vari, and have had it about 9 months now, and I recommend it.

For office furniture, I recommend looking at a used professional dealer. I purchased mine secondhand and it has been rock solid. Also, a good chair is a must and a high quality chair like steel case or Herman Miller will last a long time.
