Russian Language Disney movies?
Russian Language Disney movies?
I'd like to legally obtain some of the modern Disney/Pixar movies, in Russian (audio, not subtitled). Youtube has some few-minute-long clips of the songs, so I know they exist, but it has been hard to find the full versions. Short of buying a blu-ray player and disks off of Ebay, has anyone had success? For those with Disney+, are you able to search by language? Thanks!
Re: Russian Language Disney movies?
I don't know the answer to your primary question, but Disney+ isn't going to be your solution. Most or all of the movies on Disney+ have a lot of non-English audio tracks—something I love—but I haven't seen Russian on any of them:

Russian is also not a language you can choose for the interface:

I also do not see a way to search or even filter by language.
Non-US disks are probably going to be your only legal option. Russian is just not widely available on US streaming services, and it's not usually included as an audio track option on disks intended for North American distribution.
I watch a lot of French and Spanish movies and TV series, and it's pretty easy for me to find things now. I took Russian in college, but I don't remember a lot of it now beyond the basics—and a few poems that I memorized for class.

I certainly appreciate you taking the time to scope that out for me on the Disney+ app. It won't be the worst result if I have to buy disks (and a blu-ray player), it's just more clutter, when there is already plenty of kid-related clutter.Russian is also not a language you can choose for the interface

If you buy Russian-language discs, you're going to have to buy new a player, also - one that supports Region C. See region codes here:

You might also be able to find region-free discs, in which case you don't need a region C player.

Can you play non-US DVDs/BluRays on a computer?batpot wrote: ↑Mon Sep 21, 2020 11:09 am If you buy Russian-language discs, you're going to have to buy new a player, also - one that supports Region C. See region codes here:

I was about to buy a DVD in France when the clerk reminded me that it probably would play on my tv but said it would on my computer.
Re: Russian Language Disney movies?
It is a software issue, sort of. Distributors wanted to control who could play what movie when, so they encoded the DVD disks and player with a regional code. This may included computer playback software. And so people try to get around it. It is a bit of a arms race.GerryL wrote: ↑Mon Sep 21, 2020 5:51 pmCan you play non-US DVDs/BluRays on a computer?batpot wrote: ↑Mon Sep 21, 2020 11:09 am If you buy Russian-language discs, you're going to have to buy new a player, also - one that supports Region C. There are software ways around the region problem.alex_686 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 21, 2020 6:01 pmIt is a software issue, sort of. Some older dvd drives were region free but the newer ones can only change region a few times. One solution is to get an inexpensive external dvd drive and set it to the foreign region number. Then that drive will always play any that region disk.

Re: Russian Language Disney movies?
Thanks all. I bought a region free Blu-Ray player and a disk off EBay. Not a great value for one movie, but so it goes.
UPDATE: works great. Ordered a few more. Takes 3+ weeks to arrive from overseas, but otherwise a good solution. Thanks for the region-free disk player tip!
