Trip to Puerto Vallarta

Post by westcoast »

Looking at trip to Puerto Vallarta Mexico next month for ten days. We have been there before on a cruise which only gave us six hours in the city. So really didn’t have time to explore the city and surrounding area. We are in our mid sixties in good shape and like the outdoors and I prefer golf to laying by the pool. Looking for recommendations for historical things to see, places to explore outside the city, must eat at restaurants, golf courses. We’re looking at staying at the RIU or Velas Vallarta if you have stayed at either would you recommend them?

We took a bus to Sayulita the last time we were there. Nice surfing scene and a nice place to explore for part of a day.

We've been to the Rius there multiple times and enjoyed them. My in-laws are there a few times every year and continue to go back. If you stay at the Riu it's we'll north of the actual town. We enjoyed from the Riu to take the express bus which you can get off in town near Walmart for a couple dollars. From the Walmart stop you can then get on the crazy characteristic Centro bus for cheap and it loops through the main town. Lots of good places to eat in town. Reverse buses easy to get back to the Riu.

Stay at https://www.premiereonline.com.mx/ ... https://www.yelp.com/biz/villa-premiere-puerto-vallarta
We have over 6+ times. Room only, not inclusive. Last visit was May 2019.
Great location.
Fabulous staff. Ysidro, the head bellman, has been there for 18 years.

Many excellent restaurants within walking distance. Taxis are cheap.

We have never stayed in PV, always Sayulita, but there are great snorkeling, whale watching trips that leave from PV to the Marietas. And I would recommend taking the bus to Sayulita for a day. It’s a great little town with a lovely beach and good restaurants.

The Vallarta Botanical Garden for food, birds, flowers and splashing in their stream. It was still being developed in 2015, but was already a splendid garden.

We liked Casa Tradicional, a restaurant where they made incredibly delicious salsa fresh at our table. There's also a nice cafe nearby, the Original Cigar Factory and Cafe. We were also taken, on a tour, to the Casa Noble Tequila tasting room - really good stuff that isn't available in the U.S.

Thanks for the additional ideas. We plan on going to the Botanical garden. The Casa Noble Tequila and Original Cigar Factory sound great. Thanks for the suggestions, part of the reason for going is our 46th wedding anniversary which actually isn’t until April. The timing just worked out to go in March.

Also, it is accessible by bus from downtown PV

FYI: Mexican govt closed Sayalita beach last Easter because of water quality. Memory serves it was the only beach they closed during that time bc water quality.

I stayed right beforehand at Playa Escondido and they had norovirus warnings about Sayalta. So just check before u go.

If you are a Night if Iguana fan, ET and RBs house is now a hotel and restaurant called Casa Kimberly. It’s in PV and gorgeous.

Sayalita beach was mobbed with tourists when we went in November. Like many cool places it has been fully discovered to the detmeiment of the experience. Also enormous traffic jams on the road between Peurto Vallarta and Sayalita due to construction.
