Back to Black — Amy Winehouse
What a voice and talent! I've seen a couple documentaries that really highlight her unique gift. Lost way too soon.
Agreed. I was listening to Ina Forsman yesterday, a new Finnish blues singer/songwriter, who’s quite good, and it occurred to me that she sounded a lot like Amy Winehouse. But Winehouse was better. Too bad though, she joined the “27 Club” along with Morrison, Hendrix, Joplin, et al.
Yes, I agree also. Such a rare talent, yet seemingly so vulnerable. Of all the early deaths of pop artists, hers strike me (from a distance) as probably the most preventable. Heading down the YouTube rabbit hole a few years ago, I happened upon her last live performance. What a tragedy! It's still gut-wrenching just to think about it now. It's hard to fathom how her family and other loved ones could have put her income ahead of her health and happiness.

Current musical selection:
Kingfish — the eponymous first album (1975)
I always loved Dave Torbert's bass playing style, first with the New Riders and then Kingfish. (He was lost early, too: at 34 from a heart attack.)
