Just wow, a great collaboration.
Every song is a gem, but I am partial to Soukora, calms me down instantly when I'm upset :twisted:
https://www.amazon.com/Talking-Timbuktu ... B00000062H
I'm listening to it now, thanks.

A favorite of mine is another collaboration by Touré, In the Heart of the Moon, album by Ali Farka Touré and Toumani Diabaté

here, https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00884S3XQ/re ... s_dp_dpt_4

but easily found on spotify and others.

I came upon it after a NYT interview with Norah Jones. She mentioned it was the music for her daily yoga exercise.

And Ry did an excellent collaboration with the legendary Cuban singers for the Buena Vista Social Club. Another must-hear.
The documentary of the same name is also compelling.

The new concert film/documentary "Summer of Soul" is now available on Hulu. It's newly restored footage of a series of concerts in Harlem in the summer of 1969 and is just fantastic. The opening acts are mostly old school/traditional (Motown etc.) and then get more progressive as the movie goes on, reflecting the development and politicization of music in the 60s. It's being shown in a few theaters as well.

Andrea von Kampen.

Anybody ever heard of her?

She did a cover of B. Dylan's If You See Her, Say Hello that played on a local college station. The tune always had special significance to me, and her arrangement and voice was so beautiful that I just had look her up.

The rest of the album sounds really nice to me, too...

I've had Ali Farka Touré and Toumani Diabaté in my Amazon Music Q for a while. Very interesting music. I like the rhythms and the new (to me) instruments that improvise a lot, similar to jazz with fewer chord changes. :happy

Right now I'm listening to Izzy Stradlin's solo work. One of my regular playlists when I'm working.

Listening to Volume 1 and Volume 3 of The Traveling Wilburys.

Three of the five artists are dead now, Harrison, Orbison, and Petty.

Gone too early, all. :(

Andrea von Kampen - "Portland"

I don't know if it's her vocal styling, her melodies, the lyrics — or the combination of all of it — but several of her songs get stuck in my head. This one in particular.

Yes the "Old Country" album is pretty good. There are 2 tracks from the "Desdemona" EP that I like: "Let Me Down Easy"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fkiBLdCAYGs
and "Dink's Song"

Never heard of her before your post. At first I thought she was a classical musician(talk about stereotyping names!). So much talent around, how does anyone make any money?

In honor of Linda Rondstadt’s 75th birthday yesterday, on YouTube I watched Linda with the Eagles doing Silver Threads and Golden Needles, Linda with her own backing band doing Heat Wave, You’re No Good, and Tumbling Dice AND with Chuck Berry and Keith Richards doing Back in the USA. Lots of positive comments on her, mostly that she could sing anything and make it her own, that there was no Auto Tune, no backup dancers, etc. and no in ear monitors. What a talent!

I own the DVD and watch it anytime I want, or go to a fave clip on Youtube.

If I had to pick my 3 faves... Staples, Van the Man, Joni. YMMV.

Agreed, she was great. I especially like her traditional Mexican ballads. And she was so beautiful. Unfortunately she can no longer sing a note due to Parkinson’s. But everything turns to dust in the end.

Masterpiece. Can you imagine “what if” Pete completed and released Lifehouse instead of it?

Agreed. I was listening to Ina Forsman yesterday, a new Finnish blues singer/songwriter, who’s quite good, and it occurred to me that she sounded a lot like Amy Winehouse. But Winehouse was better. Too bad though, she joined the “27 Club” along with Morrison, Hendrix, Joplin, et al.

Yes, I agree also. Such a rare talent, yet seemingly so vulnerable. Of all the early deaths of pop artists, hers strike me (from a distance) as probably the most preventable. Heading down the YouTube rabbit hole a few years ago, I happened upon her last live performance. What a tragedy! It's still gut-wrenching just to think about it now. It's hard to fathom how her family and other loved ones could have put her income ahead of her health and happiness.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Current musical selection: Kingfish — the eponymous first album (1975)
I always loved Dave Torbert's bass playing style, first with the New Riders and then Kingfish. (He was lost early, too: at 34 from a heart attack.)
