I need to find this one. It would be right up my alley.
My current find is Brandi Carlile, In These Silent Days. What an amazing voice, and she does have a way with a lyric.

Dancing in the Moonlight
I’ve heard 4 versions in the last few days. The hit version by King Harvest, a cover version by Orleans, and another cover by Jubel, a dance version, not my favorite version. I also just listened to the original by Boffalongo, also not my favorite version.
Here’s a Wikipedia article that illuminates the thread between Boffalongo, King Harvest, and Orleans.

From the days when Fleetwood Mac was an English blues band. Fleetwood put together a cast of blues rockers for this tribute.
I can’t believe it. John Mayall just walked on the stage. I didn’t know he was even alive.

I finally got Apple Music and started out with a 60s kick this week (avoiding the Beatles, my favorite band, just because EVERYONE is listening to them them right now) My first three lessons:
1) The Beau Brummells had a lot more great songs than I ever realized
2) Paul Revere and the Raiders were a lot weirder than I ever realized
3) the Ronettes remain perfect.

Listening now, almost through.
What comes through Taj Mahal's music is that he's really well-grounded. From this 1969 release, seems like he had his feet firmly planted on the ground even as a relatively young man. I just imagine it would take a boatload of self-confidence to put out that album in 1969 at the age of 27. Impressive!

Re: What are you listening to now
Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett on CBS tonight. A somewhat unusual pairing with a fantastic big band backing them up. Tony just retired so this is his last concert. I don't watch much broadcast TV but this is good.
"Though there’s a 60-year age difference between them, Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga discovered an incredible artistic connection and have created beautiful music together over the last decade. Bennett, who has been performing for over 70 years, announced his retirement from performing live earlier this year and has decided to close that chapter of his career with Lady Gaga. His final concert, One Last Time, was recorded in August at Radio City Music Hall and will air on CBS and Paramount+ on Sunday, November 28."
Notes from Yahoo.

Thanks for the convenient link!
This thread has greatly expanded my listening horizons. I used to learn about new music primarily by attending various kinds of music festivals and listening to local college radio stations. This thread has now overtaken both of those avenues as a primary source of new listening material.
Just wanted to chime in with a heartfelt appreciation to everyone who contributes!

Re: What are you listening to now
That’s a great song. I’ve listened to all four versions that you listed here (there are other cover versions also) and I prefer King Harvest’s, maybe because that’s the one I always heard on the radio, but it’s good. The Orleans version is too slick for my tastes, the marimba is interesting. Jubël’s dance version has a lot going for it with that strong bass beat, especially with my Etymotic ER4XR earphones. I hadn’t heard of this group before.eddot98 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 27, 2021 10:58 pm Dancing in the Moonlight

Re: What are you listening to now
The death last week of composer/lyricist Stephen Sondheim brings memories of his many great Broadway musicals, but one song, “Send in the Clowns,” stands out for me, having heard endless singers record it, including Judy Collins, Frank Sinatra (the two whose separate recordings made it a hit in the ‘70s), Barbra Streisand, Glenn Close, Shirley Bassey, Bernadette Peters, Carol Burnett, Dame Judi Dench, Sarah Vaughan, etc., etc. My favorite performances were by Dench, who played in the musical, “A Little Night Music,” for which the song was written, and Shirley Bassey because, I think, they acted out the song, not surprising for actress Dench, but maybe so for Bassey, better known for belting out James Bond movie themes, especially “Goldfinger.” Here are their versions:

I love the Punch Brothers and Sarah Jarosz. The sound quality of this video is outstanding... must be a soundboard recording. (I sure wish there was a similar recording of Los Lobos, who also played there that year, apparently.)
There are lots of other recordings that look really promising on their YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCWWkw3 ... ktQ/videos
On a separate note, I am still bummed that Live From Here is no longer living...

DW wanted to watch Adele One Night Only on demand, so we watched it together. I was bored silly. Adele is fine in small doses, but not for 2 hours. She kind of yells a lot. The interview with Ophra was dreadful. I’m so over listening to celebrities, who should be content with what they have, complaining about their lives or, alternatively, in the next breath, telling us how wonderful their lives are.

We just finished watching this on demand. Tony Bennet is amazing for 95 years old. How he remembers the set list and the lyrics when his Alzheimer’s is so bad, I will never figure out. We saw Tony about 10 or 12 years ago by himself and I went expecting to be bored, but I liked it a lot. He was so smooth and melodic.JAZZISCOOL wrote: ↑Sun Nov 28, 2021 8:14 pm Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett on CBS tonight. A somewhat unusual pairing with a fantastic big band backing them up. On kind of a Sondheim kick right now (I listened to Company last week). I did Sweeney in college and didn’t think anything about the theme at the time, but listening to it now, I’m just going….what…were they *thinking* when they wrote this?

I’ve been down a rabbit hole listening to TP’s ‘Wildflowers and All the Rest’ for the past couple of weeks. An amazing album with home studio and live versions of many of the songs, which are among the best he wrote and recorded. There’s also a great documentary available on YouTube about the recording of the album back in the mid-nineties, including interviews with the band and eccentric Producer Rick Rubin.Broken Man 1999 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 17, 2020 2:19 pm Today I'm listening to a couple of my favorites from the 70ties.

Sadly, I neglected to see another favorite, Tom Petty. A missed opportunity.

New find for me this weekend...and have been playing non-stop today, "Scary Goldings". Unique cover band Scary Pockets have teamed up with Jazz great Larry Goldings (Still not sure where they got the new band name ) and released 4 albums to date. Kinda like a more accessible Medeski, Martin, Wood vibe with funky grooves and guest artists. Latest album features John Scofield (perfect for the MM&W like compositions), Mono Neon (great Prince bassist with quirky look and playing style), and others. Linking 3 from new album below:

Nice. I listen to this Youtube sometimes and find it very relaxing.

Hard to believe it's been 10 years already. But there's a timeless quality to their music. I find so much of it just stunning.Doom&Gloom wrote: ↑Sun Dec 05, 2021 9:37 pmGreat album.iceport wrote: ↑Sun Dec 05, 2021 8:07 pm Gillian Welch (and David Rawlings) - The Harrow & The Harvest - 2011

Streaming Roy Orbison via Amazon Unlimited Music on my garage setup.
So mellow, another artist who left us way too early.
Beautiful evening, 73 degrees, enjoying a good cigar, just chilling.

MIPSO - Edges Run - 2018
A really fine album by another fine roots based band from North Carolina.
This track is nice: Didn’t Know Love
I'm also a sucker for the creative use of the pedal steel guitar. All Behind Me Now
73 degrees sounds mighty nice right about now. We're just getting our first dusting of freezing mist on a dank 30 degree night in southern New England.
