James McMurtry's new album "The Horses and the Hounds". The real deal in alt-country! One of the best lyricists of his generation.

Glenn Gould Remastered: The Complete Columbia Album Collection — 300 pieces, 19 hours 8 minutes (!), streaming on Apple Music.
Gould would sometimes mutter to himself while playing which was picked up on his recordings, but could he play!

I like his new album a lot. His previous albums aren't bad either. Terrific songwriter.mindboggling wrote: ↑Sat Oct 23, 2021 2:18 am James McMurtry's new album "The Horses and the Hounds". The real deal in alt-country! One of the best lyricists of his generation.

60s soul music channel on Amazon, currently playing Ain't too proud to beg by the Temptations.
And now... it is playing the late great Aretha Franklin singing You make me feel like a natural woman.
This 60s soul music makes me feel like a teenager again, back in DC listening to my favorite radio station of the time, WOL. Sadly, WOL is now a talk station, no more music.

Fanc Moody. Fantastic funk group from London.
Their production aesthetic is crisp and borrows a lot from electronic music, but the soul of the performers really shines through. Each instrument gets a wide and clear soundstage. Ton of fun in the composition too. Very excited to see them live tomorrow night.

Witchi-Tai-To by Brewer and Shipley. I listened to all of their early albums on Apple Music to see if there were any great tracks besides their one big hit. IMHO, Witchi-Tai-To is the only real hidden gem. A Native American inspired tune. Nice layering of sounds - tabla, acoustic guitars, tremolo guitar, vocal harmonies.
Another nice "new age" version by Oregon, which only bears a slight resemblance to the B&S version.

Rolling Stones Live in Atlantic City in 1989. I have had this on a great sounding bootleg for years. Recently it was released officially as Steel Wheels Live in Atlantic City 1989. I usually prefer live Stones shows with Mick Taylor, but this is a good one. Only got through CD 1 yesterday. CD two, with Eric Clapton, on deck for today. Can’t get enough of The Rolling Stones.

I'm continuing to listen to these podcasts, hearing e9 just now. Titled The Military it reviews Holmes' interactions with the DOD and particularly Gen Mattis.cbeck wrote: ↑Wed Sep 15, 2021 6:42 pmSpeaking of the WSJ one of the interesting factoids is that as Carreyrou was preparing his first article on Theranos for publication in the WSJ in 2015, Holmes got wind of it and tried to get Rupert Murdoch to shut it down. Even though Murdoch had personally invested $125 million he declined to stop Carreyrou's investigation, the article was published, and Murdoch's stake in Theranos evaporated as it was always destined to do. Not what I would have expected of Murdoch.heartwood wrote: ↑Wed Sep 15, 2021 3:00 pmI've listened to all episodes posted so far. It's riveting for me. Carreyrou has full command of the facts and history, and tells a believable damning story using those and also audio and transcripts of her dealings. I'm waiting for the next episode.cbeck wrote: ↑Fri Sep 10, 2021 7:29 pmWait til you hear Carreyrou's latest, including childbirth as a legal tactic, fake Ebola tests, phantom audited financials, and best of all, "Smart people picked off Mado[ff], but not you." You'll never hear an apology from any on that list, most of whom are either borderline or out-and-out psychopaths. However, you may see some efforts at reputational repair, such as by that thug David Boies, who is now representing Virginia Giuffre in her lawsuit against Prince Andrew pro bono.heartwood wrote: ↑Fri Sep 10, 2021 9:30 amThanks, I'll give it a try.cbeck wrote: ↑Thu Sep 09, 2021 8:26 pm WSJ Reporter John Carreyroo, who blew up the Theranos scam, is hosting a current podcast series on the Elizabeth Holmes trial which is currently in progress. What he has dug up is fascinating as is the psychopath Holmes.
https://player.fm/series/bad-blood-the-final-chapter
I read his book a few years ago. I've seen the docudrama and the documentary. All unbelievable, and it's getting weirder as they jockey in the courts.
I believe I have not heard an "I'm sorry" from anyone involved, from Holmes, to Kissinger, Schultz, Rupert Murdoch, Boies, but esp Holmes. No remorse or apology from anyone.
Carreyroo, the WSJ reporter, deserves kudos for his work.
I am hoping that she gets the full twenty years, but think ten is more likely. But she is going to testify and face the full brunt of cross examination.
Unfortunately no one comes off well. Yes, he speculates on her pregnancy/childbirth as tactics to first delay the trial and now to perhaps influence any verdict. Your other references above are well done as well.
Curiously I find no mention of the podcasts in the WSJ.
Did you know that for the legal services that Boies was providing Theranos, he was getting paid in stock? She even suckered Boies himself.
The trial is expected to take three months!
I'll acknowledge that Carreyrou is writing his version of the story and I have yet to hear Holmes' version, but it's fascinating and so well documented, esp with taped clips from the principals. As described she's a unique personality. I don't mean that as a compliment. At the end of e9 there's a taped snippet of Mattis describing Elizabeth that's worth listening to.
I see there's also a series of podcasts by Rebecca Jarvis of ABC playing on Spotify, titled The Dropout, aka Holmes. I have not listened to any of them.
