Re: What Are Your Simple Pleasures?
Old typewriters. Resurrected my college-days Smith-Corona Galaxy II portable typewriter, watched some YouTube videos to learn how to lubricate it and put it back into service. Again working as I remembered.
But its only assigned function is to create one-off mailing labels, and instructional sticky to paste onto tools (lathe lubrication points,...). Much easier to use a typewriter than to try to get one-off forms to run through a PC printer.
Worker at post office noticed label, smiled and commented, "We don't often see typewritten labels."
I am amazed at a typewriter's mechanical complexity that enables one to quickly/easily put anything wanted on paper.

Congratulations on getting your typewriter up and running. The Galaxy series are bulletproof.dratkinson wrote: ↑Wed Sep 08, 2021 7:46 pmOld typewriters. Wonderful!
There can be a symbiotic relationship between heart, mind, prose and composition, and something as visceral as fountain pens and cursive penmanship or vintage manual typewriters, that creates magic.
I imagine Hemingway or Steinbeck composing their iconic works on a vintage Royal or Smith Corona.
Some things are timeless and endure.
And fun.

Mark Twain was the first author to use a typewriter. He had an 1874 Sholes & Glidden. https://type-writer.org/?p=5093
The actor Tom Hanks is a typewriter enthusiast. He created an app functioning as a typewriter emulator. You can use it to “type” your own documents using any of several classic typewriters: Hanx Writer in the App Store.

Waking up with my husband
Having my first sips of morning coffee
Playing with my dog
Reading on my iPad while I eat breakfast
Going for my morning run
Balancing my accounts on Quicken
Running some fabric through my sewing machine: piecing for a quilt top or quilting the sandwich, both are good.
And that’s just the start of my day.

A good documentary is almost like a drug to me.
Walking with my wife in the park and/or beach is a great simple pleasure and my morning ritual is drinking coffee and reading news on the internet. I feel I was blessed where I never needed to be a world traveler or own expensive things to feel I'm living my best life. Just daily life is amazing to me and I get a charge out of being on this planet with people I love.

A person has to have interests, yes even passions...mine are gardening, family, faith and as always VA history. - When my feet don't hurt too much, I might be persuaded to reel (as in VA Reel) -. Too old now for any reenactments...this still brings tears to my eyes...can you find the passing glimpse of me?

I like lying down on the couch while reading. Preferably if there's an old fashioned on the coffee table nearby.
Edit: Even better if the book is from one of those Little Free Libary boxes all over town.

The oldest 4 couldn't resist the pool and went in one at a time. Since the water was cold, each was out quickly.
We all had backpack chairs. One of dry younger guys, passed out 2 beers each. Life was good!
When I'm home, and the rain is coming down hard, I sit in the door to my storage building and observe.

Swimming in our pool with my 4 year old while it rains. The water is warm from being in the sun all day, but the cool drops of rain hitting your head and shoulders while the rest of your body is submerged is just the best feeling. His laughter and smile while we "race" and do crazy jumps in the water melt away all the stress from work and life. Always reminds me what really matters.

Re: What Are Your Simple Pleasures?
+1. (But not a side hustle.)
I'm working on a Christmas gift for some friends. They backup their family pictures/videos, by drag and drop, rotating among backup drives, when they remember to do so. Their home PC is win10.
I'm finishing up a win10 daily (so backup drive remains connected) backup script to automate the process for them, and account for the changes that happen when they rotate backup drives, so they don't have to do anything. (My last serious attempt at backup scripts was with win98, so there's been a learning curve.)
Since I've switched to using same script for my daily backups, and rotating among thumb drives, I believe it's getting a decent testing. So far, so good... 1-2 tweaks remaining.
After delivery and initial setup for their PC, the plan is to teach husband (technical background) to understand/modify script, and work myself out of a job.
