What Are Your Simple Pleasures?
Similar to everyone here, I am very good at saving money. There are some consumer items that brings me pleasure and to me, are worth the spending. I don't consider them extravagant but simple pleasures.
1) Running Shoes. Changed to new pair this morning and feels like I am walking on air. I went to running store to get properly fit and test out all types/brands running shoes on their on-site treadmill. I run 3x a week at gym and walk 1 mile daily to work (get off at earlier train station and walk rest of way to office for exercise). Cost was about $80.
2) Nespresso Espresso Machine. I am not a coffee snob but can't stand K-Cup coffee....it taste very watery to me. I also have a french press but it takes some time/effort to make a cup of coffee (more of a weekend treat). This machine is literally just 2 mins and I am out the door to work. I look forward to waking up every morning to make a strong and tasty latte to start the day. I also discover an Almond Roca sugar free syrup that I add to my latte. Taste as good as any $5 latte from Starbucks. Cost was about $150 for machine.

Re: What Are Your Simple Pleasures?
Seeing my friends and neighbors every day and chatting with them while walking the dog for a few hours.
Re: What Are Your Simple Pleasures?
Reading (sometimes library, sometimes buying a Kindle book from Amazon if the library doesn't have it electronically), puttering around in my yard, exercising, reading this forum, sitting outside on the deck in summertime with a beer and listening to music with my wife. I'm a simple man
Re: What Are Your Simple Pleasures?
Sitting out on the porch on sunny days reading my free library book (before the bugs get bad, that is).
Re: What Are Your Simple Pleasures?
Waking up before dawn, thinking I have to be up in 2 hours and go to work, and then realizing it's Saturday!
(Soon, every day will be Saturday.)

Taking a long lunchtime walk with my wife on the riverfront. Breaks up our hectic days in the office.
On a hot lazy summer afternoon, relaxing on the couch with the Res Sox game on.
And we enjoy cruises. I’m most peaceful sitting on my balcony as the ship slowly sails along at dusk. No more peaceful place on earth imo.

Drinking coffee on the deck while reading (library book of course) or sitting with my wife
Drinking ice cold beer on said deck
Hiking, walking the dog, working out, a good cigar on the deck, paired with either a coffee or ice cold beer.

Got a saeco xmall coffee maker really cheap recently...it's already paid for itself and the quality is much better than my previous maker.

Putting the top down on my convertible after a long winter to enjoy the sights/sounds of a beautiful spring day. It will be followed by those warm/hot summer nights under the stars with the top still down.
The Mustang replaces the same feelings I had when I rode my motorcycles at a much younger age, but gave it up after growing older (and finding that folks getting increasing inattentive in their driving which led to a few close calls).
Secondly, taking my dog(s) for long walks which is encouraged for their health - and mine...

I should say playing with the kids is the most important simple pleasure....particularly getting them outside and doing any activity outside with them....

1. Gym membership, I've been an endurance athlete for 20 years.
2. Running shoes, I spend ~ $150 a pair
3. Coffee, spent $2,500 on an espresso machine that paid for itself within 8 months, now costs me $0.95 to make a 20 oz latte.
4. Fruit
5. Spending half an hour in my hot tub before the sun comes up

Plopping down on the couch on a weekend morning with a mug of coffee and a good book or crossword puzzle.
Going for a bike ride. No, not a "training ride" or anything involving Lycra or special shoes. Just a simple bike ride on a normal bicycle, maybe to the park, or the store to pick up a few things, or just to see how the neighborhood's doing.

See handle: great 2 b outdoors. As simple as a walk around the neighborhood, going to the park, mowing the lawn, a hike. Yep, especially nice after a rainstorm and the sun comes out, like today.

I remember reading somewhere that early retirees and normal retirees alike eventually will start hating actual Saturdays since that is when everyone is doing errands at the same time.

I bottle, and almost always have 8 or more different brews.
Right now I have a clone of Moose Drool, and a clone of Bell's Brown. I also have an Apricot Wheat, a base Wheat that you can add your own fruit flavoring to in the glass, two Reds, one of which is more of an Irish Red, a Black IPA (won award), and an Oatmeal Stout, some with a shot of coffee added at bottling.

I have a friend who is getting into this. He was spent a couple thousand on a watch and GPS device. The irony of needing such technology to safely get off the grid amused us both.

All of the above plus:
Exercising
Walking my dogs
Being outside
Watching hummingbirds at my feeder out kitchen window
Beach walking
Reading
Music
Dancing
Long hot soaking baths
Conversations and lunches with friends
Getting a massage
Re: What Are Your Simple Pleasures?
The Penny wheels and bearings are perfectly good, but the Shark wheels handle rocks and debris much better, and I prefer built-in bearings.

Coffee.
Grilling something for dinner.
A glass or two of red wine. Sometimes a beer or two instead.
Brand new (to us) rescue dog.
I'm not sure yet that the last one will qualify as a simple pleasure

Easily spending time with my wife watching tv after the kids are asleep. Picking my kids up from school and seeing the smile on their faces.
Good luck.

I make beer, wine, and mead. Sharing the creations with family and friends has been rewarding...even more rewarding when they ask for some to take home (that way you know they weren't just being polite). Even better if we get to cook for company.

I was going to post "backpacking" as well, but I realized that it was not simple until after you have spent about 60 days per year in a tent for the past 5 years.TheTimeLord wrote: ↑Tue Apr 16, 2019 10:31 amI have a friend who is getting into this. Re: What Are Your Simple Pleasures?
Agreed that backpacking is complex & requires a lot of planning, strategy & effort to execute - that is part of its appeal.TheTimeLord wrote: ↑Tue Apr 16, 2019 10:31 amI have a friend who is getting into this. You don't really "need" this technology for backcountry usage and it sometimes detracts from the aesthetics of the experience. Paper maps usually work very well for navigation. GPS helps to say "you are here and these are the attributes of this place." That to me is its most useful application and not even that helpful for most of my uses.
Some of my simple pleasures are stated by others but I would add: being alone in my house sitting in a rocking chair drinking morning tea and listening to NPR news and music; short bicycle rides especially through agricultural landscapes with the sights & sounds unique to that environment; reading books in my bedroom with a pendulum wall clock the only noticeable sound.
